Wondering what the wakeboard scene is like in Ft. Lauderdale. Got some friends there and they're trying to get me to move down.

homedawg678 08-30-2009 7:20 PM

Ski Rixen is close by.

ntkamper 08-30-2009 8:48 PM

brass_monkey 08-31-2009 5:28 AM

I have a townhouse on Crystal Lake that is for rent. 3bed/2.5ba with dock on a freshwater private lake not even 5 minutes from Rixen. Email me at ty.udell@gmail.co m if you are interested and I can talk to you more about it.

I cant find much info on crystal lake. How big is the lake?

srock 09-02-2009 7:26 AM

Crystal lake is a good spot to ride and I don't think there is public access. It's been a while but I used to run the course there when Jim ran the school and we were always the only boat on the lake. At one point they were going to add lights.

I think Dean Lavell is now running a school on the lake. Check out his website. It's also a stones throw from Ski Rixen.

timmy 09-02-2009 7:31 AM

If that is the lake on the north side of Sample Rd, it is plenty big

shredhead 09-02-2009 9:18 AM

I didn't know the name of the lake, but I've ridden with Dean and it is a nice lake. Kinda small, but not much traffic. Some nice canals near there too!

brass_monkey 09-02-2009 11:05 AM

Each lake is a nearly a mile long. It not usually that busy, and the lake is about 80feet deep, so the water stays warm in the winter.

Riley, let me know when you come to FL next. I moved to Tampa, but still have my house on crystal lake.

srock 09-02-2009 12:11 PM

I kinda stupid for not saying the place sucks. Oh well, Barry would have figured it out a some point.

fatsac 09-02-2009 1:19 PM

I'll be there in October too. I was going to post the same at the end of this month and see if taking the board is worth it or not.

strizzo360 09-05-2009 4:48 PM

Why do you say it sucks. For riding or in general?

k2rider2690 09-07-2009 6:20 PM

my sister is going to be down here over xmas break for a soccer torny and my rents want me to come hah but i said only if i can wakeboard...whats the scene like in dec?

srock 09-08-2009 9:05 AM

Full of snakes. Everybody who goes there gets bit. Three alligator attacks in August alone. Now the exotic pythons have been snacking on full size dogs from the shoreline. Too close to the everglades I guess.

Oh well, enjoy your visit.

strizzo360 09-20-2009 6:25 PM

So how big our these lakes? Are we talking a few miles around?

brass_monkey 09-21-2009 5:14 AM

Each about a mile long.

dreevs 09-21-2009 8:23 AM

Tim - sent you a PM

brass_monkey 09-21-2009 2:24 PM

Ted, just email me. I don't know how to check PM's on this message board. Possibly because I have a MAC or just don't see where the button is to check them. Thanks, ty.udell@gmail.co m
