hey guys i am new here and i just had a quick question for you, before summer i will be picking up
a new used boat and just wanted your guys opinion on the best boat i can get for about 15k cash? i basically grew up skiing behind a 19ft 550hp flatbottom then when i was about 9 my dad got a 89 mastercraft prostar 190 and we had that until the late 90's, i put a skylon and a fat seat in the back, and now my dad has a 23ft bluewater deckboat so its time for me to get my own wakeboard boat. thanks guys for the input!

Look For i mid 90's MasterCraft Prostar 205.

i have one, great wake, great boat.

i'd say look for 1995-1999.

205
sport nautique
supra launch

i also saw a 1998 sanger v210 v-drive for 14k, should i go with the v-drive boat over the direct drive IF i can find one at the same price? and how bout some of the late 90's malibu's with the wedge? my dads buddy bought a early 90's malibu skier when we had our mastercraft and the malibu was definately nowhere near the quality of our mastercraft but that was in the early 90's.

(Message edited by gr8white on March 04, 2009)

(Message edited by gr8white on March 04, 2009)

if you can get that sanger do it. but only if its in good condition.

i'd buy a 90's mastercraft over a malibu any day because malibu's quality wasn't the same in the earlier days. now malibu builds amazing boats, but their early stuff wasn't good in my opinion.

i'd say get a 205. thats your best bet.

Buy a ski challenger or wake challenger they are awesome v-drives. Check out mine, it really looks like a newer model boat. None of the terrible colors of the 90s.
http://spokane.craigslist.org/boa/1057799575.html

i found a 1999 mastercraft sportstar bow rider, what is the difference between that and the 205?

wakesk8er2 03-04-2009 7:13 PM

a foot in length and the hull shape. '97 and up 205 has the same hull as the original x-star. the sportstar was the price point boat.

You should be able to find a decent 205 with tower and sacs for that amount of money right now.

Try this one.

http://saltlakecity.craigslist.org/boa/1052777268.html

Looks nice rob, is that a maristar? were the v-drives all maristars?

robandrus 03-06-2009 10:48 AM

Yah, maristar....Not all were V-drives...After 94 it gets difficult to find DD's.

mastercraft1995 03-06-2009 11:21 AM

MC 205 is what I would buy. I had one before my Malibu and loved it.

We bought our 96 VLX for 15k, and this was 3 years ago.

rio_sanger 03-06-2009 2:10 PM

I'd say go for the '98 V-210 if it's clean.

Same hull as the new ones, that boat was way ahead of it's time.

spyderwinches 03-06-2009 2:36 PM

go with theV-210 no doubt

formfunction 03-06-2009 5:23 PM

V 210 is a great boat.Looks good on the water too.

96 Malibu VLX for $16k

http://houston.craigslist.org/boa/1039849626.html

wakemikey 03-12-2009 8:44 PM

That would be so awesome! ---^

rio_sanger 03-12-2009 9:01 PM

A '98 V-210 for two grand less than a '96 VLX is a no brainer to me, providing they are in equal condition.

On the vlx is there any way to make a seat that connects the front passenger seat to the rear bench so it becomes wrap around seating? i also saw a 2000 sky supreme v-drive for under 15k and that boat also looked really nice and the swim step was built into the boat like the older nautiques, what you guys think oF the sky supreme?

(Message edited by GR8WHITE on March 16, 2009)

yes, connecting the front to the back seating would be easy. You could also create extra seating behind the driver seat if that makes sense. Add seating plus extra storage, another ice cooler, subwoofer box, etc... You could get creative real quick & I bet it wouldn't cost that much to do.

As is, the 96 will comfortably seat about 8-9 adults. With the add-on seating arrangements I could see you easily fitting up to 3 or 4 more!
