Floor Jack for Boat?
 

Due to the drought in TX this year, I haven't used my boat since July. I recently purchased a couple of 4 ton jack stands. I just wonder if anybody puts their boat/trailer on jack stands over the winter. What I worry about is the tires holding all that weight for 9 months without moving so I thought the jack stands might be a good idea.

So is there any advantage or issue with using jack stands to take some weight/strain off your trailer tires?

Jack stands are a good idea, place them under the trailer FRAME just behind the last axle or if possible between the axles on a tandem trailer. This will allow the springs to rest and the tires won't have any weight on them. Use an old chunk of carpet so you don't scratch your trailer paint.

The tires usually hold up fine but this will help your springs last longer more than anything. (Or torsion axle, whichever you may have). Put a stand under the tongue too

It is a big help keeping the tires from getting out of round from sitting in one spot. Some folks will also slightly over inflate tires for the same reason.

After sitting all winter (last year that was 7 months) last year, on our first outing all 4 tires got bulges in the sidewall and had to be replaced. The bulges weren't there when I left, but when I got to our destination (3 hours away) they were very apparent. I don't know if it was from the boat sitting all winter or not, but I bought 4 jack stands and jacked the axles up just to be safe this winter. Harbor Freight jack stands are a heck of a lot cheaper then new tires. I think I got all 4 on sale for under $30.
