Do any of you pull tubers from your tower? I'm just curious to see is anyone has damaged a tower from towing extreme tubers.

wakemetoday 04-18-2007 6:20 AM

Sorry about the typo. I meant to say, "I'm just curious to see if anyone has damaged a tower from extreme tubers,"

wakeriderixi 04-18-2007 6:26 AM

Just Don't Do It!

Never seen a tower/boat hurt in person though.

luke22885 04-18-2007 6:29 AM

A person I know started to have the gelcoat crack around the tower mounts, but they also pulled 2 tubes on the tower a few times.

04-18-2007 6:40 AM

For the tubing impaired, could you please define "extreme tubers"......?

andy_nintzel 04-18-2007 6:44 AM

I busted my tower and I am guilty of towing the kite tube from my tower

wakemetoday 04-18-2007 7:55 AM

Thanks for the information. I am going to run a copy of this and put it in my glove compartment in my boat so when my buddies start bugging me to hook to the tower, I can let them read this. For a cool video of a tubing tantrum performed by an extreme tuber, check out this link and it will answer your question about an extreme tuber http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMzBmnwLlqw&mode=related&search=

Andy arent you the same guy that was just bitching about MC and/or MC dealer not taking care of that tower under warranty or fixing for free?
http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/1/436497.html?1176890621

andy_nintzel 04-18-2007 12:22 PM

Billy that was me! Whats your point? I also Tow wakeboarders with My Truck and Tubers with a jet ski. Towing the Kite Tube from the tower is natural progression, so is making the line longer so you can go high. I was mad about my tower still am. But it getting fixed. Speaking of which I have a 2000 X-star for sale you interested.

woreout 04-18-2007 12:28 PM

My point is... the tower cracked from abuse not from a DEFECT. The Mfgs clearly state that you should not pull a tube from the tower.

bftskir 04-18-2007 1:24 PM

extreme tuber...sounds like a medical condition. or big potato.
the myspace video: all i can say is it is only a matter of time before heads hit heads and stitches, concussions, tooth loss result, if not worse. and why???

Don't hate tubing....its one of the funniest/scariest things to do behind the boat. You are not in control.

andy_nintzel 04-18-2007 5:36 PM

Billy we about to start fighting and that is lame. I will leave it alone as long as you do. Towers should not crack ever.

spjc 04-18-2007 5:47 PM

i always pull the tube hooked up to the tower and have never had any problems...but not too sure about pulling two tubes from it.

majorman22 04-18-2007 5:59 PM

We used to pull tubers from the tower bu we almost flipped our boat im not sure how but it almost happeded so just be careful

garyw 04-18-2007 6:01 PM

Most towers today can handle the tubes, what I would be concerned about is where the tower connects to the boat. There is not a lot of fiberglass there, and a lot of towers do NOT use backing plates

wake_upppp 04-18-2007 6:13 PM

Why are all these MC towers cracking? Are they cracking in the same spot? They can't all be from "abuse".

04-18-2007 8:01 PM

Sparky Jay, (nice name)
I was wondering the same thing. I've heard about a lot of cracking on the Zero Flex towers. I guess that's just one more reason to stick with Nautiques!

andy, peace

drpete3 04-19-2007 10:21 AM

Loved the battle tubing video. I laugh my azz off when my friends get behind my boat tubing. Its a blast

jarabacoa 04-19-2007 10:22 AM

"Pulling Tubes From The Tower"
Now there's a visual. I opened the thread expecting to see some home made contraption up on the tower for what I've always known "pulling tubes" to mean.
But, then it was back to reality...

I'm like you, Peter. What's funny though is pulling someone on a tube into a double up. First timers will really get air because they have no idea what they’ve gotten themselves into. I'm still reluctant, though, to ever hook a tube up to the tower. Tubing can be a good form of entertainment when the water is trashed by “weekend warriors” or when there is a boat full of people needing a good laugh, but not worth trashing a boat over.

rob_kc 04-19-2007 3:35 PM

lmao jarabacoa! The same had crossed my mind when i saw the thread

richd 04-19-2007 3:47 PM

When I used to pull the kids tubing with the Sanger I would watch the ski pylon bend and Sanger pylons were some of the strongest in the business. I shudder to think what a tube would do to a tower!

nauty_tique 04-20-2007 6:30 AM

Let me start by saying I haven't done the tubing thing, but It seems like boarding would be a lot harder on a tower than a tube would. I realize that most of the load while boarding is directly behind the boat and distributed among the 4 mounts of the tower, where as tubing would be pulling more from the side.(while slinging them around.) You can't tell me a tube sliding on top of the water is worse than a hard edge while the boat's turning or a raley cut etc...!

carcrz 04-20-2007 7:43 AM

A tube pulls a lot harder than a boarder. There is a lot more resistance due to the size & how the tube sits on the water. Not to mention the speed we usually get going on a S/U-turn or figure 8.

chaser 04-20-2007 11:52 AM

tubes have way more drag, especially getting em outta the hole. Some of the tubes get a bunch of water accumulated in the tube which exits a vent once you get up on plane.

By the way, would you pull tubers from the center tow hook in the back of the boat then? What about with multiple tubes, would you ever hook up to the eyelts for the tie down straps or don't those have the support?

etakk7 04-20-2007 2:39 PM

the ski eye on the transom can easily hold 3 tubes, if it could on my cheap Starcraft I/O, I'm sure a V-drive boat can handle it. I've heard you can get more swing in the tubes off the ski eye than the pylon. An old outboard that my dad used to have had a small ski pylon above the motor and tubes bent it pretty good.

hawk7 04-20-2007 6:36 PM

ay dude, dont talk about tubing on a wakeboard site, just a suggestion...

sammm724centurion 04-20-2007 6:39 PM

tubed several times from the tower. Why not, people tow double wakeboarders so what's the big deal? If you have a good tower it is way more fun and more air than towing from the boat.

wakemetoday 04-20-2007 8:51 PM

Sorry, Trevor, but I get a lot of flack about not allowing any tubes to be attached to my tower. On the weekends, by noon, the water is so trashed we pull out the tubes and the wakesurfers.I was just checking to see if I was being paranoid.

eternalshadow 04-22-2007 5:57 PM

You won't catch me pulling tubes from my tower.

sidekicknicholas 04-22-2007 6:53 PM

The instant you hook the rope to the tower there is no going back from the "weekend warrior" status you will achieve..... you can do it, but any damage is well deserved

josh_r_skater 04-22-2007 10:01 PM

i thought thats what towers r for tubing?

rich_g 04-23-2007 2:32 PM

when my kids were younger we did a fair amount of tubing; especially for birthday parties and stuff like that; its an easy way to please a crowd and uncoordinated cousins.

there times when a tube drops down in the bottom of a swell, and the pull as it comes out of the hole is way greater than any wakeboard pull (in my estimation). I've had it almost stop the boat, and jerk the back of the boat around in other situations. I will only pull a tube from the transom.
