Crappy. I wonder if they are having the same problems at their east coast factory? Would it be possible that they would do more of the production out of the Tennessee plant because the overhead is less?

brucemac 04-02-2009 3:58 PM

it kind of sounded like that from the article. way sad indeed. hopefully some warmer weather soon will help out with boat sales and they won't have to let as many people go.

ponte_06_x2 04-02-2009 4:07 PM

or more jobs. you cant buy a boat with no work. dam. thats 200 people. not to mention. how many family members rely on malibu for food on the table. tough times

1/8 = 12.5%

The 90,000-square-foot factory sent eight boats a day out the door in 2007. Now it's down to making one a day.

coldlake 04-02-2009 7:43 PM

How are the product lines split between the two factories?

I think a lot of Americans are not seeing the full effects of this recession on so many industries. Leisure time equipment and services are just killed. The domino effect is significant. I sell to manufacturers in a segment that is only suffering moderately. Running scared just aint fun. We need some good news.....

Sorry to hear for these employees, along with all the others....

ottog1979 04-03-2009 11:04 AM

Good News: Stock market up 20% in March. A leading indicator, hopefully this means we're on the bottom and looking up soon.

^^^^ Keep dreaming

highrock 04-04-2009 7:41 AM

Well everyone had an attitude of keep dreaming we would just keep going deeper and deeper.

Its sad for Malibu, and hopefully they will bounce back after all this over. But if people keep saying its going to get worse it will. Those people might as well stick their head in a hole and hide because they will not help things get better.

only 3 years and 10 month of bad decisions from our commander and chief. we are doomed

epic1 04-04-2009 10:21 AM

882001, cry me a river, you dont think the policies of W for 8 years had any ill effects?

woreout 04-04-2009 10:53 AM

Or Clinton...

highrock 04-04-2009 1:31 PM

Keep putting the blame on someone....

sidekicknicholas 04-04-2009 1:34 PM

^ I blame Lincoln, or Taft.... heck maybe even FDR.... they all set us up to fail right now. Bitches.

krbaugh 04-04-2009 1:39 PM

Just think if O had not cut his budget in half it would be 6 trillion

There is plenty of blame to go around
Consumers, business, congress, Democrats, Republicans, Presidents Yes O and W and C No one gets off without some of the credit/Blame

magellan 04-04-2009 7:44 PM

A HUGE Blame of the collapse rests on Clinton my friends. Getting low income families and minorities in homes no matter what it took. It was the American dream. This massive collapse makes the money spent on Iraq look like a drop in the bucket.
Blame who you want, but housing is why we are where we are.

882001 04-05-2009 5:36 AM

Clinton was a terrible decision
Maker too.... Thanks to nafta. I can't even find or Buy an American product. So y'all think 6 trillion is fine? It's not fine. Our kids and there kids all the way down the line are going to suffer.
