My son says tantrums are way easier than backrolls. Is he full of it (w/a sh)? I've been too afraid to try because of two previous knee surgeries. ----ACL etc. Plus I'm an old dog (38). Should I just quit trying and buy a 32'+boat to just sit on and drink (not beer).

There about the same. Depends on the person really.

tantrums come alot easier for me than backrolls, and look alot cooler

Definately depends on the person and what feels more natural. Now that I have been doing both for a while, I would say the tantrum is an easier rotation. But I had a hard time getting them consistant a year ago.

a tantrum is more natural for me... but a backroll is all about edge and take off.... u just roll around the rope pretty much.... i landed a tantrum on my 3rd try and a backroll it took me about 10 before i could get them good... the main thing on a backroll is keep the handle by your hip so it wont jerk the heck out of u

Backrolls are super easy if you commit to it when learning. Tantrums are easy if you wait until you leave the wake to flip. A lot of people leave too early(bottom of wake). I make an unscientific claim that you will be more likely to tweak a knee on a strange tantrum landing. I'm 35, but have no kneee injuries in my history. Good luck.

I too would say the back roll is going to be easier on your knees.

For me, the backroll came really easy. The tantrum has been the death of me, so to speak. countless injuries on the tantrum. No injuries on the back roll...well a mild concussion or two.. I got to go, my hands are numb again. haha.. j/k.

Blew out my right ACL when I cased the wake on a backroll.

Blew out my left ACL one year later with a tantrum into the flats that I landed too hard.

Take your pick, find a good doctor, get your knees fixed, buy good prescription braces, come back and do it again!!!
