rub rail replacement

Searched first no results

I have a sanger dlx and its time to replace the rub rail. I called Sanger and they shipped the new rubber insert. I was planning on trying it myself and wondered if anyone have any tips or tricks.

I had planned on soaking the rail in a soapy hot water to make it both soft and flexible. Is there any sort of jig needed or process other than old fashioned elbow grease?

Thanks in advance!

You need heat, either a really hot day or heat gun will get it nice and pliable.

Yeah - heat and a couple of old spoons. It ain't rocket science. It is actually super easy.

a rubber mallet works well too

Anybody ever replaced the actual rub rail portion that screws to the hull. My insert has been replaced and looks fairly good but the base that the insert goes into looks like crap! Any suggestions....

Got it done on Saturday. The rubber Sanger sent me was not exactly like the one on the boat so I may call them and see what they say. all in all it was pretty easy. Setting it in the sun made is flexable enough and I had a heat gun when needed. I just set the botton in and used a tool to push the top part in. Did the whole rail in about an hour and a half. For those considering doing it I say its an easy job.
Thanks to all who gave me tips!
