SAN owners weight distribution question
 

So I took the new to me 03 SANTE out yesterday. Filled it all the way up, port, starboard, and belly tanks. Had four and a half folks in the boat (little kid). Perfect Pass could not keep the boat on plane at 20-21. Dumped the rear tanks and it was much better but not great if you know what I mean. So how do you guys distribute the weight? Friend of mine said to put an additional sack in the front. Was thinking about adding lead to the front instead of a sack if that is true. Appreciate any insight!

I wouldn't think you'd have a problem with stock ballast at that speed. You may want to try running a little faster or make sure the perfect pass is accurate and you're not really going slower then you think you are or maybe the paddle wheel is damaged. Might want to check what prop is on it too, that has a lot to do with how well the boat holds speed.

In my 97 supersport which is the same hull I run 750's on each side of the engine, 650 in the locker, 200 in the nose in lead and another 160 midship in pop bags. With this setup I'm running 23-25mph depending on the rider.

My buddies 05 210 we took the wedge tanks out and replaced them with 750's in the rear, stock belly tank and 300 in pop bags in the nose. Also run between 23-25 mph depending on the rider.

That doesn't sound right... my 04 with stock ballast + 4 or 5 people at can hold 19 w/o any issue. Try playing with the gain settings. I do have the team prop, but that should be an issue. Fcatory full plus 4 or 5 peeps is pretty normal and it should hold at 19, 20, 21 or so on just fine.

20-21 mph is too slow for my weighted 03 SAN, but it still should plane. I put Pop bags in the bow (about 250 LBS), but that’s to level out the wake.

I sometimes have had a problem where my Perfect Pass will "tighten up" and it will not allow the power needed to plane. Just shut the boat off and throw the throttle fully forward to unwind it. It only happens when the driver is unfamiliar and uses too much throttle to start. That’s the only thing I can think of.

I had an '03 and only added a 300 lb sac in the floor just in front of the rear seats. Check your paddle wheel housing/assembly. I suspect you have a bent paddle wheel.
