The bat tail is a single to double with a slight v out the tail. The two in the middle are TWP Bullets. One as a traditional quad - trailers have 3 degrees cant and no toe-in. The other is a Rusty C-5 knock off - the small leading fins are Futures C-5's made popular in wakesurfing by the folks from Walzer. The final one is a composite sandwich with a square tail - same fin set up as the first bullet.

Jeff ive been looking into getting the composite x 4.5 board.Which one of these boards would be comparable to that.

Hey Joe, the Comp X 4.5 this year comes configured with two standard Futures Rail boxes (a change from the Futures C-5's from last year). That will allow a user to swap in any standard rail fin offered by Futures, as well as, the tiny 2 3/8" turbo tunnel side fins to basically match the depth of the C-5's from prior years. <BR> <BR>I've seen, but haven't ridden yet, the current year rocker and that has increased from prior years also. <BR> <BR>The outline most closely matches the quad battail on the far left...of course except for the tail. <IMG SRC="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0> In fact I used the nose from the first year Comp X as a template - the first 12 to 14" of the board I R&amp;D'ed (ripoff and duplicate <IMG SRC="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0> ) from the Comp X. <BR> <BR>The ride, I'm guessing, more closely resembles the standard Bullet (two middle boards) configured as a twin...a touch faster, but not quite as aggressive in turns (rail-to-rail). <BR>The flat bottom will give it that skatey feel - like a good skimmer, but not quite as loose. <BR> <BR>The battail I made has a single to double to V bottom contour. So it rides very different than the Comp X even though the outline is similar. <BR> <BR>Remember there are so many options with fins the ride can be substantially altered to suit your purposes.

What are we talking about here? Are you offering these boards up? For just shipping charges...or what? I'm interested in one of the two middles ones. Let me know how you are working this please. And thanks.

I know you were just playing Matt...I read an article/interview by a respected shaper once and he said there are only two tail shapes. The pin and everything else. EVERYTHING else was just bling. The pin or rounded pin shortened the rail line, but the other shapes had little, if any impact over one another (square, squash, round, etc). If you think about all of the tails being the same width, I can see the logic in that. <BR> <BR>The skimmers seem to validate that, also...for the most part they are all a pintail. <BR> <BR>The bat looks cool, but I can't say that it does anything - at least, I couldn't tell. I think I'm going to focus my attention on tail shapes that release from the wake.

hey jeff,i spent a lot of time worrying about releasing the tail in the face.only to come to realize that i was loosing drive.since i was a little heavier than the reg dude,i shined the whole deal.went a diff direction.glad i did.i would focus on rocker.how much,where its at,and its relation to your bottom work,after all that,you will know exactly what fin set up.just an idea.also,how much for the compsand board on the far right?

I've got a buddy who rides a McCoy Nugget. The board has this thick, wide rounded tail. It has a very sensitive sweet spot as well. He surfs that 7'2, slinging the tail around like nobody's business. He's ridden behind my boat as well and is his favorite board to wakesurf with. He would like to knock off about a foot and a half of the nose though. We are thinking about trying to replicate that same shape but making it 5'6 or so but keeping the same width and maybe thinning it down just a bit. Also, it's a single fin. It's set up right now with a 7.5 turbo-tunnel. The tail actually looks like one of The Walker Project boards.

I've got boat issues, so that freed me up to finish some projects. The quad in the hot box above. I discovered a few things AFTER starting this project. One is the location of the cross members, you'll note that in this build they hit at the leading edge of the fin. Subsequent to this build out, my observations showed that the trailing edge of the fin had the most force applied to it and would be the optimal place for "bracing". <BR> <BR>On the other quads I built, the trailers had no toe-in...they tracked like a railroad train. Well...not quite that simple Mark, I'm sorry to mislead you. Toe and Cant will effect the rail to rail responsiveness. The less toe and cant, the more the board wants to go in a straight line, but there is less resistance and lift and it tends to go faster down-the-line. <BR> <BR>I made that board from EPS, the stringer materials is epoxied ply. EPS will melt when exposed to styrenes so...no the foam on this can't be exposed to a typical rattle can paint. <BR> <BR>After a lam coat, before a hot coat you could use a rattle can though.

when i lived in fullerton it seemed that it started to get light out at 4 a.m., compared to georgia. can you paint eps core but with water based paint only , right ?. i road my harley from fullerton to covington ga in a total of 48 hours, 2500 mile trip , i stayed up the second 24 without sleep. ironbutt
