I'm looking at a used 2002 X Star tomorrow and am interested in the differences between the 310hp TBI motor and the 350hp MPI motor (both 5.7l).

Specifically, difference in mileage, cold starting, smoothness, hole shot, top end, and maintenance requirements. Anyone have experience with both of these motors?

john,

mastercraft offered 2 5.7's in 2002, a 310hp and a 330hp. I can go on and on about the differences but it might be easier for you to give me a call at cope's in santa clara.
408-248-7844

John I was told that the 310hp was a far better motor out of the hole. The 330hp motor had a better top speed but was more sluggish out of the hole that the 310hp. I went with the 310 and it's a great motor. Thats why MC went with the new 350hp engine in the 03 lineup. It's suppose to be a great motor with better torque and a higher end than the 310 and the old 330.
