MasterCraft X10 vs X Star (Hull Question)
Is the X10 the same hull as the X Star in a similar year? (2001-2003). I rode in a X10 this weekend and really enjoyed the wake and the room on the inside. I went on nada and the dimensions are alomst identical with the X10 being wider. They seem to be much less expensive and with less hours. I've never been a Mastercraft guy but was really impressed.

Nope, entirely new boat and hull.

Which year X10 did you ride?

The hulls(wetted surface) are nothing alike whether you are comparing to the old 205V xstar or the newer picklefork xstar. The 205v has a really flat hull that is narrow and has tracking fins. The X10 is the maristar 210 hull which is wider, more rounded at the stern and doesn't have tracking fins I am pretty sure. That said the X10 still may be capable of producing a good wake. Personally I would rather have the X10 then the 205V for the extra room, storage and likely a better rough water ride. Sure the wake might not be world class like the 205V but it should still be plenty good for 95% of wakeboarders.

The year was 2001. I didn't think about the tracking fins. The boat seemed not turn that tight as compared to my direct drive. (If that makes sense). I assumed that v-drive would be a little differetn anyways. The rough water ride was nice. So ia a 2001 XStar = the 205V Hull then?

Yes, the 2001 xstar equals the 205V hull. Here is a list of 205V hulls. 1999-2002 xstar 2003-2005 X2 2006-2010 or 2011 X1 any prostar 205V I think there might have also been a maristar 200V or 205v at some point in the early 2000's but not sure. |

I think my draw to the 205v/X1/X2/Xstar hull was being able to get a great wake with not a lot of ballast. Now it definitely is not a pro wake with stock ballast, but for my needs it works. Now if I suddenly become a gifted boarder, I can add ballast and get a pro level wake.
Other than that, I was actually looking for a small v drive, so the narrow beam on my X1 doesn't bother me. Rough water ride is a bit suspect, but it is all relative. I couldn't pass up the deal I got on a classic hull. Fuel economy has also been outstanding, something I wasn't counting on. |
As mentioned the maristar 200vrs and 210 are completely different hulls with completely different characteristics.
The maristar 210 and the X 10 are identical. The X10 just came standard with the x graphics, tower, ballast, perfect pass, and upgraded stereo. The Maristar 210 is a great all around family boat. It's does everything good, but doesn't excel at any one thing either. The wake on the 210/x10 is a bit wider than the 205v hull and is much more rampy. It takes a bit more weight in the maristar 210 to get the wake pumping. You can get a solid intermediate wake out of it. It's just one of the more mellow/rampy wakes in the MC line. The boat has tons of storage and almost twice the cockpit room of the 205v hull. The maristar 210/x10 also surfs a bit better than the x1. It has a longer pocket and a bit more push, mostly due to the fact it will handle more weight than the 205v. The biggest sac u can put in the 205v is the 750. I believe the maristar210/x10 will hold an 1100. I would have to check On that as I am not 100% certain. Most people will say the Maristar 210/x10 will handle chop a big better than the 205v as the hull isn't as flat as the 205v. However I will say its not by much. They both are still 21ft wakeboats with flat hulls. If you don't know how to drive u can get hammered in both thru the chop. All in all if you want a quick comparison on whether to go 205v hull or x10/ maristar hull you have to put your priorities in order. 205v hull Ferrari like handling Monster Pro caliber wakeboard wake(still arguably one of the best ever produced) Avg-below avg surf wake. Just enough to get you going and having fun, but it's size is the limit Arguably the best slalom wake from a v drive ( still able to take in a course) Very tight inside with 6 adults n gear( ie coolers backpacks towels snacks) but I still say above average on storage space for a boat that size from back in that era. The compartments are deep and sized generously.... Again for a boat that size and era, but it the narrow beam that makes the cockpit get cramped fast with adults and coolers for a day trip Maristar 210 Tons of space Handles a bit better In chop Avg wakeboard wake Ok recreational ski wake (no course driving and I bigger bump at the shorter lengths) Avg surf wake for 21 ft'r 8 adults n gear no problem. Takes a bit more weight to get the wakeboard pumped up Handles more like an I/o than a true comp boat due to the lack of tracking fins |
Oh and I wouldn't say the x10/maristar 210 handles poorly. It's just doesn't handle as good as the 205v/XStar ........but then again there are only a select few boats that are in the class of the 205v/XStar. There is a reason it's the longest running hull/ boat in mc's line and in the wakeboard industry.
You will def find X10's for less than any 205v/XStar in same yr and condition. The 205v hulls will get a premium and get snatched up quick |
Thanks guys. I'm also looking at a Sanger V-215 but the X10 definitley had alot of room and a wake good enough for me. I alreay have one new ACL so I don't need to the wake to be huge. I looking to spend around 30k but have found some X10 for low 20's. And the X1/X Stars seem to have alot of hours.

The Sanger 215 will be a much larger boat than both of the MC's as it is about a foot longer and has a much larger beam...I would choose that one over a X10 personally...maybe not over the Xstar though. The 215 has been called one of the best handling V-drives ever but I agree with xstarrider that the 205V hull has Ferrari like handling. I wouldn't be too afraid of high hours - you need to do your homework and it is a risk no matter how many hours are on the boat. Xstarrider's Xstar as he mentioned is well over 1000 hours and I am about 50 shy of 1000 on my X2. |
