Im looking into doing a custom ballast install in my boat. I want to use either jabsco or simer pumps. <BR> <BR>Exacly what models of these brands are most you using?

Use simer pumps jabsco is a great pump but way over priced. Simer great value easy to replace impellers. I think i got mine at pumpbiz.com for around $125 each. Don't mount them in the engine bay is what people say so i mounted them under neath the back seat.I think the pumps don't have ignition protection or spark protection or something to that affect. I used them all last summer with no problems, over the winter i fully automated with switches three switchs. One front two rear bout 1200lbs in an elite v drive.

I used Jabsco becaue they are ignition protected. The only place for mine were the engine compartment and going boom was not an option. That and they are in my opinion a heavier duty pump. I like the built in run dry protection too.

I love my Simer it runs great. No impellor issues. Would highly recommend them. $75 plus shipping. They run dry all the time for short intervals with no issues.

A boat manufacturer would NEVER consider using SIMMER pumps because they are not ignition protected -- something to think about when you seek the savings.

Why do it for less when you can just charge the customer more?

That not it. Its about liability and deep pockets. If you blow yourself up and your friends, its likely just a very sad day. Yet, if you survive while others don't then say goodbye to your ASSets.

Curt, my boat is three years older than yours. The boat here is a 2000 air warrior elite v-drive. <BR> <BR>I have ordered the jabsco water puppy pumps. I am going with a pump for each bag in the rear. These pumps come with the switch too. I know its the costly route, but I really dont feel like (not that im not capable) getting into building pvc manifolds, solenoid valves, etc., etc. Im keeping it simple switch, pump, ballast, plumb it, done. <BR> <BR>Thanks for everyone's input.

I used two ballast puppies to fill my two rear sacks through a shared thru-hull in the center. Simers have the exact same function and setup as Jabesco and do not require manifold, solenoid valve, or any of the things aerator pumps use. <BR> <BR>GD Sorry I was being a smartass. I understand the liability issue but I do not believe that is valid if the Simer is placed in a safe location like under the passenger seat. It is sealed, there are no fumes there. It is a slightly longer hose run but it works fine. If someone can afford the Jabesco, great. I can't afford to spend spend an extra $100 on a pump. <BR> <BR>Same thing with a thru hull. I used my raw water and it works perfectly. Some people will say that's not proper. For one or two pumps it is fine. If you are worried you can do it with the engine turned off.
