This is making its rounds on the internet... I thought I would post it in case some of you haven't seen it yet.
St. Johns County Sheriff, St. Augustine, Florida This is why you shouldn't go looking for the golf balls hit 'Out of Bounds' in Florida!!! THIS IS NOT A PYTHON! This is a 15 foot Eastern Diamondback rattlesnake - the largest ever caught on record, in fact. This snake was found Near the St. Augustine outlet, in a new KB homes subdivision just south of Jacksonville FL. A little research revealed the following: One bite from a snake of this size would contain enough venom to kill over 40 full grown men. The head of this snake alone is larger than the hand of a normal sized man. A bite from those fangs would be comparable to being stabbed by two curved, 1/4 inch diameter screwdrivers. The knife being used to draw out the fangs for the bottom picture has a blade around 6 inches long. This snake is estimated to have weighed over 170 pounds. (How much do you weigh?) Notice the girth of this snake as compared to the cop's leg in the first picture (and he is not a small man). A snake of this size could easily swallow a 2 year-old child (and dogs, pigs, etc). A snake this size has an approximately 5 1/2 foot accurate striking distance. (The distance for an average size rattlesnake is about 2 feet.) This snake has probably been alive since George Bush Sr. was President. Now just ask yourself these questions: What has this snake been feeding on and where are its offspring? |
If it is real screw all of that. I can't stand my old roommies 8ft python. 5-1/2' striking range is enough to creep me the eff out. It was one thing when they would have to catch and coil but now they are that big and have venom. It would be awesome to see it in action though at a zoo or something.

It's definitely real, but it's definitely 15 feet long. All the articles I read said it measured in at 7' 3". The longest ever Eastern Diamondback caught measured in at 15 feet. Either way it's still one helluva snake. Nice find.

Yeah i just saw where they said the snake was closer to the photographer than the officer. Still pretty crazy.
|
that thing looks way bigger than 7'3"
|
WTF! That is insane. I would love to hear the rattle on that thing, could probably hear it a block away!
|
fake ... no geo. bush sr. president
anyway, even if just 17 pounds, still fearsome. |
10 minutes from my house. Awesome.
|
Lets see now.
two new pairs of boots for me. matching hand bag for the wife. belt, wallet, brief case and passport wallet. Naw, too redneck even for me. I'll keep the boots though. All snakes make me uncomfortable. Did you hear about the douche bag last year that had a big (pet) python in the house (trailer?) that ate his infant? Florida of course:rolleyes: I just cant see the pet quality in snakes. |
Wow that thing is impressive and incredibly terrifying.

Here is Snopes take on it http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/15ftrattler.asp
|
The perspective in those pictures make it look much bigger than it actually is.
|
oh, and that blade in the last pic is closer to 2" long than 6" it claims
|
The dude in the middle picture ... is his weapon of choice is a 7 iron ?
|
Nope it's not fake guys.
You're absolutely right man, this photo came around about Summer of '09 if I recall right. so yeah this pic's been circulating for awhile. that's a biiiiggg snake alright.
