tired of replacing the bow LED nav light on my 06 X30. (people don't seem to realize that it is not a handle to pull on).
Has anyone replaced theirs with maybe a flip one (like the malibu's) or covered it up and put them under the rub rail?
Anyone?

I'm curious why people are grabbing your bow light. Are you picking people up at the dock bow first? Maybe swinging the boat around & picking them up on the swimstep would be better?

I don't see any problem with either idea. The popup light on the Malibu works great. But it would still be there to flip up & grab a hold of.

Typically it happens if we are parked at a beach. I nose the boat in. People climb in and out of the bow. Also, if I'm tied up in a group and someone is hoping boat to boat, the NAV light becomes an easy handle to quickly grab to pull the boat closer to get on.
I just though if anyone else had any similar issue and was able to resolve it my just removing it and replacing with a flip down.
With a flip down, it out only be used obviously from dusk to dawn. Out of site, out of mind. Not there to grab.
Most of the other MC with pickle front end have the NAV light on the sides by the windows I think.

I don't have an MC, but I had the same crappy bow light. I swapped out my stock Perko with a flip up LED one. It kept getting caught on the bow line when I tied up somewhere. I had to drill a 3.25" hole but that was the fun part.

Nice. What brand?

hatepain 10-12-2009 3:43 PM

I have the exact same one its by Accon and can be had here. It's an easy project and the best way to go.

How did they arrive at 65.6 feet? If my boat is 66 feet, I can't use this? Not that I have a 66 ft boat. I just thought it was funny.

I think its just based on USCG ratings for the size of the light.

My guess would be that vessels over 20 meters must display individual bow lights, not the split color combo ones used on many smaller boats.

I installed the Aqua Signal unit, works real nice.

^^^Tha Accon has changed quite a bit since that thread. It's smaller and very substantial as well as pops up by depressing the tab.

dhcomp 10-13-2009 8:58 AM

That aqua signal is the one they use on the malibu's.

I love mine, but want to replace the bulb with LED, as it gets HOT AS ••••••••• you have to lean over the front to grab the bouy at night

y49sides 10-13-2009 9:14 AM

Can LED's be replaced in the Aqua Signal light?

razzman 10-13-2009 9:52 AM

Yup it gets hot so i just flip it down and lay a towel over it, attach the buoy and raise it back up. As little as i use it it's not worth checking for LED bulbs. BUT i bet that they are made and would work.

cyclonecj 10-13-2009 2:09 PM

I went with the Accon because of the cool bezel that was available and I wanted an LED bow light, bulbs fail at the wrong times and I spend a lot of time out at night.
