Looking for a 10" sub that has less than a 5,5" mounting depth that still hits really hard and has good sound quality.

nautiquesonly 06-17-2008 4:23 PM

pioneer makes some in the premier series i have them in 12" and they rock.

nautiquesonly 06-17-2008 4:26 PM

here is a link to see them
http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=520&i=130TSS2541&search=Pionee r+VENDORID130&searchdisplay=Pioneer&tp=111

nwsjake10 06-17-2008 4:30 PM

yea i second the pioneer TS, those things are sick.

lovin_the_wake 06-17-2008 4:31 PM

I think the Alpine TypeR would work nicely

lovin_the_wake 06-17-2008 4:31 PM

Well damn that Pioneer is a sick looking sub

tanner 06-17-2008 4:34 PM

if you could scrounge up another 1/4" you could grab a IDQ V3 10". One of the best sound Q subs around, and will hit hard if tuned right.

You could always use a 1/4" baffle to raise it up and give you your 5.5" depth.

The ID10 has a 5.5" mounting depth, but I have no experience with this sub. I only know the IDQ and IDMAX. If Image makes it though, you know the sound q will be great, even for a entry level sub. As for pure output, It probably won't be the loudest of subs.... probably somewhere around a pioneer or other entry level brands.

(Message edited by Tanner on June 17, 2008)

jlaudio now has a sub thats 2.5 depth
http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_subs_pages.php?page_id=245

trickyboarder08 06-17-2008 5:10 PM

Well, what do you guys think would hit harder, the Pioneer TS or a Power Acoustik STW-10 Subwoofer?

tanner 06-17-2008 5:11 PM

Guess everyone is going to those super thin subs. Kicker has one too.

trickyboarder08 06-17-2008 5:37 PM

anyone have any experience with the Power Acoustik STW-10 Subwoofer?

hatepain 06-17-2008 8:13 PM

I've heard these in a couple different applications and they sounded pretty good for such a limited box. http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=520&i=575P3SD210&tp=111

While I was looking around the house for some system items, I found an amp from my old system.

It is a MA Audio 1200 watt amp.

http://sonicelectronix.com/item_3693_MA+Audio+HK898.html

So, I have this amp and I have a custom made box to go in my truck. This box is for 10" subs and is only 5.5" deep. So I have an amp and I have a box, now I just need a sub.

So what would be 2 good subs that would fit in the box I have, yet match the specs from the amp I already have also.

trickyboarder08 06-18-2008 6:38 AM

oh, and I want these to hit as hard as possible. Since I already have the amp and box, I guess I can spend a little more on the speakers.

Brandon, I know I recommend their stuff a lot, but I've been happy with Elemental subs.
The 11kv2/3 has a depth of 5"
http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_21&products_id=30

The SQ10 has a 3" depth.
http://www.edesignaudio.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_21&products_id=106

I was very pleased with my 13kv2 (for the $$) and a buddy installed a SQ10 in his truck which I was extremely impressed with for a shallow mount 10. They also have great warranties. Just another couple options for you.

nwsjake10 06-18-2008 7:26 AM

Well those Pioneer TS's are right about $160-$200ish, which isn't too much. I checked out those JL's that Leo mentioned, but it looked like those only come in a 12". Seems like right now the best bet may be the TS, no experience w/ the Punchs' that Hate N Pain listed.

pdqwrx 06-18-2008 8:14 AM

I would check out the Boston G1 line of subs...

G112 has a 5" mounting depth and a 1 cubic foot optimum enclosure size.
http://www.bostona.com/car/car_product.aspx?category_id=17&family_id=129& amp;product_id=372

G110 has a 4 3/4 mounting depth and a 1/2 cubic foot optimum enclosure size.
http://www.bostona.com/car/car_product.aspx?category_id=17&family_id=129& amp;product_id=371

Both subs rock and I have personally heard them outrock both the pioneer and the Rockford mentioned above and 2 of the tens will go toe to toe with the JL slim line for less then half the money and only a slightly bigger box.

The problem with shallow subs is a lack of excursion because of there limited depth. The Bostons have 1 3/4 linear excursion which is respectable for a shallow sub. Ask Ben (Sound Box) he has some G1's in his truck and I am pretty sure he loves them.

Cheers
Scott

trickyboarder08 06-18-2008 10:54 AM

I decided to go with 2 rockford P3s

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_details.asp?cat_id=4&series_id=31& family_id=11&item_id=108287&locale=en_US&a mp;p_status=

I think i'll be happy with these, and they match the specs for the amp I already have.

hatepain 06-18-2008 10:55 AM

That's the sub I recommended brotha!

nwsjake10 06-18-2008 11:00 AM

nice, good decision! let us know how they work out.

trickyboarder08 06-18-2008 11:03 AM

Yea, I know thanks Pain.

I'll let you guys know how I feel about them, but I am almost already sure i'm gonna like them.

olskooltige 06-18-2008 7:21 PM
