I landed with my legs already bent and compressed my fibula, breaking it into 8 pieces! I'm 6'3", 235 #'s. Fun, fun! I go to the ortho tomorrow... <BR> <BR>The Score: <BR>The Golden Calf ('06 SAN) - 3 including a dislocated knee and being knocked out. <BR>Me - 0, but have 750 hours of fun in at the lake.

Bummer Dude. You normally hear about these breaks happening with locked legs. Did you land in the flats?

Yes, of course it was in the flats... I was riding on a SAN wake.... lol. <BR> <BR>My legs were already completely compressed when I landed, so it might as well landed with locked legs. My bug hit the board. I thought I had a sprained ankle so I went to the doctor on Tuesday. I did the damage on Saturday. My regular doctor pretty much freaked out when he saw the x-ray. Today will be interesting... I'll post the x-ray if I can get a picture of it.

Wow...8 breaks and you thought you had a sprained ankle?! I broke my fibula and experienced the worst pain of my life...well, I guess it could have had something to do with the destroyed tibia as well.

I have surgery next week, Dr. says I need some plates and screws. I broke the end of my fibula clean off at about inch from the bottom. You can move it around under the skin about one and one half inch front to back. It still doesn't hurt. <BR> <BR>Has anyone ever heard of the Orthopedic Surgeon named Dr.Randall R. The getting around part isn't bad yet. I have a "walking boot" until surgery on Wednesday. After that I will have a cast which is going to be PITA! I'm lucky though, it still doesn't hurt, I'm hoping it stays that way after the surgery. Crutches suck!

Had my pre-surgery interview today... It looks like lots of screws and plates are in my future. I'll post surgery pics tomorrow.

Sam I feel your pain. I fractured my 2, 3, and 4 metatarslas last week and will be in a cast and on crutches until november. I was lucky that none of my fractures required surgery. When I first had them xraid the doc said it was probably inevitable. Good luck and a speedy recovery......

Yes, I was doing a tantrum and cased the wake with my back foot landing first. The board snapped up and my foot went with it.

Went to the doctor today. He removed my staples and went over the surgery with me. The bone snapped in lots of pieces. He counted 7 larger ones and lots of smaller ones that will dissolve over time. All I can say is that unless you are rich you should not wakeboard without insurance!!! I luckily have it, I bought my own policy... But so far the total bill is over $25k!

Ouch, I have a similar looking scar on my arm. I broke my Humerous clean across the middle and the upper part jammed into the lower part of the bone. This split the lower part down to the elbow and sliced my tricep. I now have ten screws and a plate in my arm. I was about 13 when it happened and still have hardware in my arm. That metal aint cheap. Just the metal plate and 10 screws were over 2k. <BR> <BR>Hope you have a quick recovery.

I had the same injury three summers ago (2007), but I broke both bones (tib and Fib) I got pretty much the same device you have and two screws in the other bone. Do your physical therapy and work it out hard when they clear you and you'll be good to go. I have rode the last two summers relatively pain free so you should be good to go. <BR> <BR>The funny thing for me is it didn't hurt me much when I did it, I wasn't in a lot of pain either. I thought it was a bad sprain. I didn't go to the doctor for a week.

Holy cow!!! Tonight was the first night that I was able to take off the air-cast. My calf muscle is already mush! I can't flex it at all, total atrophy!!! Freaking crazy!! I'm worried now.

I, unfortunately, do not have my Xrays. My bone didn't shatter in multiple places though. It was a clean break through both bones, but my foot had shifted close to an inch. I couldn't tell when I first did it, because of the swelling. Then one day in the shower, I noticed the ball of the inside of my ankle, was more towards the top of my foot, so I broke down and went to the doctor. You're right about the insurance thing. I was on COBRA, due the fact that I had been laid off, thank god. The Ortho. Surgeon's fee was 3000.00 for the surgery. Aneostesia (I know bad spelling) 1200.00. The screws and the plate were 750.00. The O.R. was 12,000.00. Another 2000.00 for PT plus another 1000.00 or so for checkups, walking boot, etc. So it can be expensive if you don't have the insurance. <BR> <BR>My fib scar looks identical to yours. When you first put pressure on your ankle, when you get 100% weight bearing it's going to be tender. And watch any sudden jerking where you have to shift your weight quickly to that ankle, because I did it and it felt like I ripped all of the hardware out. Your lucky to be in a removable cast. I was in a hard cast for 3 weeks after the surgery. No swimming during one of the hottest summers I can remember, pretty much just laying in bed all day. <BR> <BR>The only thing hurting now when I ride is my confidence.
