wasarrested.com - Negative Exposure
hey all,
My sister brought to my attention an ordeal she's facing and I though I'd get your opinions. Upon searching her name in Google, a site called wasarrested.com hits on the first page. The headline, right on Google, reads: Nov 5, 2009 ... Ann Arbor – (Her first and last name) was voted to be the “Sex Female Of The Year” according to world Sexual Balistics Rating system in Ann Arbor. Obviously this isn't the kind of exposure someone applying for jobs and graduate programs wants to have. If you go to the site, it is meant to be a hoax news story sort of deal. Anyone can put any name on it, and it generates all these crazy, sometimes crude, stories. The catch is, in order to remove your name from the site they make you pay a fee of 35 dollars or something ridiculous. What do you think? I don't know what advice to give her on how to approach this. Obviously it is absurd to have to pay a fee to remove your name when you don't even know who or how it got up there in the first place. Thanks for your help! |
haha that's a joke site. It's been around for more than 10 years. We used to put people into it all the time. One of my buddies still comes up as the "Phanton Shi**er."

Seems like a pretty fake site, I would hope any potential employer would see through the scam and not take it seriously. Otherwise...get someone investigating the site for false information or something like that?
|
What a stupid site. but i bet it is illegal. I would contact a lawyer if you think it will really be a prolem. But $35.00 will prob be cheaper. Or write them a letter or emial. Maybe they will jsut take it down

What a stupid site. but i bet it is illegal. - I'll take that bet.

Fraud, defamation of integrity, etc.
The fact that they know they're screwing people, and will take money for it, very lame. |
Riley, Brodie, and Al have all been screwed! Their names are on the front page.
|
did she do a porn or something?
|
Did you read the thread Kyle?
|
C'mon Who put us up there! Punks! When I find out I am gonna blast you!

Whats with the pay to get off thier site and then all future queries for your name well be forwarded to the Disney website? Does Disney have something to do with this? Or do they feel its better if people searching your name think you once dressed up as Mickey Mouse? That site is pretty sad but i bet you they make alot of money off people paying to remove there name, $35 is alot less hassle then dealing with letters and lawyers.

I own wasarrested.com and feel for your sister. Feel free to email me her name and I will ban it form being used on the website.
|
how timely of you
|
timely
I can appreciate it may seem timely of me to be getting to this thread after so many months, however if you put it into perspective... Under most cases I wouldn't ever reply. :)
If someone is able to give me this girls name I will ban it for free. |
^^^How can you even justify, running such a scam?
|
Scam? We understand that sometimes it may be possible to prank someone who doesn’t take the joke very well. Or, you’ve put yourself in an bad situation because you made a story about someone and it somehow ended up in Google.
Since we feel sorry for those people who can’t understand how this website really works we have put together a tool that will allow you to prevent your name from being used in any story created on WasArrested.com The other option is we don't give a tool to BAN a name from being used on the website. NOTE: I didn't make the story about that person! |
Why do you charge people $35 to have their name removed?
|
2 things....
1) It's $45 not $35. 2) It's not removal... It's adding their name to a BAN list so their name cannot be used in any story. |
Please explain how this is not extortion.
