I'm thinking about getting this boat and wanted some info for the following questions from people who own or have been pulled behind these boats.
How much is the factory ballast, and when loaded if you turn quickly to pick up a rider has anyone had water come over the bow?
The gunnels seem really low compared to other boats, in both the supra and moomba V-drive models, Anyone have any problems with kids in this situation? I have a 3 yr. old.
How's the wake behind the boat with factory ballast compared to other v-drive tournement boats?
I've heard some problems with a lot of spider cracks for moomba's any insight?
How does the swoop-like tower handle, is it typically shorter than others?
I've heard problems with the windshield getting wider and the walk through glass would fall through, apparently they've switched windshield manufacturer's, but it sounded like a hull design flaw.
Also, how are the indamar 310's?
Patrick,

I have a 2001 Moomba Mobius, LSV was not available at time of purchase. I am not sure exactly of the factory ballast weight but I think on the LSV it is around 900LBS. In my boat I have about 1000LBS in sacs and 350LBS in Sand Bags, all hidden and out of the way. I have the 310HP motor and I seem to usually have at least 7 people on the boat (4 adults and 3 kids). The motor and boat both do fine. The wake shapes up best from 21 - 23MPH.

Will water come up over the boat if you turn around quickly to pick up a rider? Well first off Please always try to slow down before turning around. Nobody likes power turners as it messes up the smooth water. If it is needed to turn quickly I do not believe you will get water in the boat. It can happen if the water is really choppy though but the more you drive the boat the more you know how to handle it in those conditions. I have not really had any problems with the spider cracks like some others have had. The tower works just as good as any, I dont think it is any shorter than others but I may be mistaken. The winshield problem has been fixed on the new 2003 models. Again this is something I have not had happen to me but I have read about people who have had this problem.

If possible try to get the Gravity Games ballast setup. Some dealers offer this from what I have heard, it is more than 900LBS. Try to get the Wake Plate and maybe Perfect Pass. These are two features I wish I would have gotten. Also if you can go for the fuel injected motor over the 310 carb. The 310 works great, but sucks a tiny bit more gas from what I am told.

For tower speakers and board racks, if you do not go with the Mako Ind items that the boat would come with check out http://www.fluidconcepts.net
They make really nice racks for the Moomba/Supra tower as well as tower speakers. The Mako Ind. stuff is nice too. As well as Boss which is very popular.

Anyway good luck with your purchase. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Ohh and by the way, Skier's Choice customer service is top notch.

(Message edited by cws_kahuna on April 07, 2003)

Hello Patrick I have a 2002 LSV. We love love it. We have the factory ballast which is 900lbs. If you get the boat go with the wake plate. The boat tends to porpose without. We got perfect pass this year. I don't know if it is problem for the boat but the speed is hard to maintain at a constant. When towing riders you really have to pay attention to the tach and speed. With perfect pass the problem is solved. It makes towing a rider a breeze. We have yet to have a problem with the windshield. The spider cracks we have none and heard it was happening on the outbacks with the factor ballast over filling which has been resolved. I can not say enough about skiers choice. They have great customer service and they are always helpful. If need be you can power turn and you almost have to try stick the bow in the water. It can be done and will be done at one point. All in all it drives very nice. A few people that have driven love the way it handled. I can not say enough about the boat. I do have a 5 year old son that loves the boat. I never felt that he was in anyway in danger. But before we get to fast water we always lay down rules. Especially if there are other children. As long as they are sitting all the way down and the driver is careful there is no saftey issue. I think the best thing to do is to test drive the boat with you and your family. The only way to answer some of your concerns is to find out. I hope this helps and good luck.

Hey Larry I think you mean porpoise.

The LSV is the best boat for the money. We are not going to sell it for as the best wakeboarding boat out there but for the money it really is the best. Fit and Finish are not as nice as the more expensive boats but the materials for the boat are top notch and are the exact same as used in all the top boats.

The standard 310 Indmar carb is fine. We have that in our boat and after the engine gets some hours on it then it runs/starts fine. If you can afford it I would recommend the fuel injected. Only because its easier to start, you don't have to worry about the engine warming up before you take off, and if you are in higher elevations the engine performs better. If these things concern you then go with fuel injected. If you don't care then save some cash and get the standard engine. We have it, Perfect Pass was extremely simple to install on our own and the boat looks and runs great.

Guys... Thanks for the information I appreciate it. My intentions are getting the LSV Gravity Games Edition which comes with the wakeplate and 3 bag ballast, also I'll add a perfect pass and a depth finder, I might upgrade to the 320 EFI, not sure yet.
Am I right to assume that the wake when weighted down doesn't compare to that of the big 3? Is there any difference in wake between the Mobius LSV and Launch SSV? I know the hulls are different and the Launch is a foot longer.

Definitely do the EFI engine... I hear it is much better for resale value. Doesn't the GG edition come standard with the EFI?
