advice would be sweet

goatroper222000 10-19-2008 4:56 PM

good progressive edge and stay stiff off the top of the wake...dont absorb any pop with your knees..

When you get to the top of the wake, keep you legs stiff as if someone was about to jump on your back.

put another 50 cent in the pop machine. <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/biggrin.gif" border=0>

watch a good skateboarding movie and pay close attention to a big ollie. Thats the same kind of motion you use to pop off the wake. You definetly want to stand tall at the top of the wake but pushing off evenly with both feet isnt the awnser. Id say 60/40. The harder and quicker you stand tall and push off with your back foot the higher you will go.

What board are you riding? That can affect your pop as well. Try a 3 stage if your looking for more "buck"

jsquared 10-20-2008 12:07 PM

Three stage rocker is not necessarily the way to go. If you think about it for a second Shaun rides a continuous rocker and still goes HUGE! Just concentrate on edging all the way up and through the wake. That should do the trick.

I agree. Some boards may not complement your timing, but in general, no pop is not the boards fault.

nsolis220 10-20-2008 12:15 PM

so if your timing is always a bit late should i get a slower board?

knarbar 10-20-2008 1:21 PM

I agree john and after I read his profile he's riding the Lyman so there goes that out the window. All I was saying is that naturally a 3 stage will pop straight up off the wake. Yes, shaun rides a continuos and goes HUGE. I dont think anyone has a raily off the D-up like shaun does. But Shaun also knows the technigue to popping unlike anyone else. He has top selling DVD instructionals and has been riding for awhile not to mention other watersports. For somebody less skilled, a 3stage may help them get a little more straight up pop. But then again you sacrafice landing. So I guess the technigue is pretty much everything haha. I think time on the water is your best bet David. Just keep riding and soak up all the tips you can. Whatever works for you roll with it.

I just started wakeboarding this June, although I have snowboarded since I was 11. And I primarily just rode behind a jetski because that was all I normally had. I was out on a boat maybe 6 or 7 times this year. On the boat I was caught really off guard and my wake jumps looked really goofy. I later figured it out and corrected it, I don't know if it was a habit from snowboarding or what, But I was absorbing all of the pop with my knees. Push your legs through the wake and you should be back on track. Oh and stay on your edge.

ya my profile thing is right. i AM riding the lyman
