Vest help! jet pilot A10 or checkmate?

I have heard the A10 barely floats you which I am not really to fearful of but I dont have much experience with the checkmate. Any insight on either of these vests?

Have you searched for the other vest threads? Those are two very popular vests and I'm sure they have been thoroughly discussed before, shouldnt take too long to find.

I have the A-10 its sick and its ridiculously light but i never used the checkmate so i am going to recommend the the A-10.

It does float you ok. However, my biggest issue is I am tall and its not really made for tall guys. Price was right. Oh I am 6'1"

Check out the new O'Shea vest!

I have had 2 A10's both awesome. I use a skyhawk now it floats better but I miss the A10.

A-10 sux and is uncomfortable. Checkmate is amazing and longer so perfect for tall dudes. This is no contest... the Checkmate wins hands down.

As far as vests with zippers go, the O'shea is certainly one of the best. Light, comfortable, and mobile. huge step up from the A-10

I can't comment on the Checkmate, as I have no experience with it, but personally I love my A-10, I am 6'0/6'1 and plan on getting another one this season. It is real light, It doesn't limit my range of motion whatsoever, I have never had it fall off during a crash, but when I want it to it comes off easy even when wet, and it dries super fast. I do recommend sizing down, because it does like to slide up a little while I ride. A little tightening of the buckle will do you good.

My favorite so far. Super comfortable, light and best of all CGA approved...floats me REAL good!! Fits small though so you will need to size up. Am a large A10 and 2XL O'Shea.

I am in a xxl in the A10 at 6'1" 190lbs

Ttime41 02-16-2012 7:07 AM

Bevan, the O'shea does have a front zipper but is not CGA

Reez 02-16-2012 7:19 AM
