So a week ago or so I go out to my boat and it just won't start. Thinking I got water in the fuel or dirty fuel. Finally get it to start using carb spray but then it won't idle. Have a mechanic look at it and he tells me he backed out both the screws on the carb and either it will clear or I need a rebuild. Questions:

1. Since the carb screws are backed out what will happen if it clears?
2. What do the two screws do? Air and fuel I am assuming.
3. What do you think I can do if this happens to me on the lake?

did your boat sit for a long period of time? if it were my boat id take of the carb and break it down and give it a good cleaning with some carb spray(available at any autoparts store). throw it back together and test it out. i did this at the boat launch earlier this year in about 20 minutes. im not sure what screws he tampered but since he did he pretty much assured himself that youd need to bring the thing back to him to fix. if he's nice enough to set the carb back to its original settings then a good cleaning is probably all id need

the two screws is an idle screw and an air screw. if it starts with the spray turn the idle screw 1/4 or 1/2 a turn each attempt so you can change it more accurately.

When you adjust the idle air screws you want to turn them either in or out until the motor is at it's highest idle.
