I am getting a fella to build me a tower and i was wondering how high is too high, I want it to be plenty high but not too high

widerider 09-12-2003 1:28 PM

Ive heard 7.3 is as tall as you should go, but I thought I heard someone say 8 one time

widerider 09-12-2003 1:42 PM

will someone please tell me something?
ryanbush11 09-12-2003 1:57 PM

the biggest worry is trailering, and low bridges

jarrod 09-12-2003 2:19 PM

just go for it. If the Tower Park bridge rips it off your boat, you know it was too high.

ryanbush11 09-12-2003 2:30 PM

thats a good way to judge it, kinda worry free

Just look at a tower thats already marketed and see how tall it is, probably your best way to do some research... also the guy woudl probably be able to fabricate you somethign really sweet if you gave him some ideas from other towers

B

as far as i know, to a certain extent anyways, as high as the tower is will somewhat affect how high you are.....but more air equals more pain....my tower is 7.5 from the floor of the boat and i think that may be a few inches higher than the average

http://www.stiffytower.com/photo_gallery.htm
if it turns out looking like that your not on the right path.

shutupandboard 09-13-2003 9:32 PM

He means if it turns out 6' taller than this your on the right path.

ours is 8' tall off the floor and we have no problems with it.

wakeboard_iraq 09-16-2003 11:49 AM

what is that stiffy tower thing?

thane_dogg 09-16-2003 12:30 PM

guy A: "hey man, can you take 5 feet of for me?"
guy B: "ok, but if I'm not back in 5 minutes I didn't make it to the top."

I think 75 inches from the boat floor is pretty standard. That's what the Flight Control Tower is and Nautique has the tower patent, so I think they know what they're doing.

Change is a good thing.I've ridden behind a stiffy tower before and all I can say is taller tower=bigger air.

shutupandboard 09-16-2003 1:36 PM

Thane that is hilarious. Until i just read that i didn't even think about that. How in the hell DO you change rope length, A boom truck?

shutupandboard 09-16-2003 1:37 PM

I guess some sort of clip down where you could reach would work.

Go Big

xtremebordgurl 09-24-2003 11:23 PM

How do you get up there? Without hurting it or yourself? I bet riding behind that thing would be like riding on the cable except you'd have a wake to work with, I bet that would be sweet! But I bet its also a royal pain in the arse to take care of.

monstertower 10-01-2003 9:59 PM

Nearly all towers and pylons have a tow point height above the floor of 7'. The tow point would be 5' if you mounted it on your gararge floor but most boat gunwales are about 2' above the floor of the boat.

It if it was much lower there would be a lot of head banging, much higher and you would need a step stool to get to the rope.
