Fresh water flush?

Just picked up an a22 salt series. Anyway, I have never had a fresh water flush mounted on the transom. What's the proper way to use it. We kept blowing impeller hoses of because our garden hose has too much pressure. Is the correct way to: start engine, then turn on water, turn off water, then turn off engine?

Did a search and found this here

"I reccommend a transom flush kit too. My marina installed the one from malibu/axis, works like a charm. hook up a water hose to it, turn it on. keeping engine at idle for 5-10 mins".

I also found these reviews on an aftermarket flush kit.

Apparently blowing hoses off is really common.

Oh no. I already have one but have never flushed a boat with one. I would normally use a fake a lake. We brought the boat home today and blew a hose as soon as I hooked it up

I know you already have one. I wasn't trying to say get that one, but just showing the reviews for one. It seems like your problems with blowing the hose is pretty common for flush kits in general according to the reviews for the Perko flush kit.

They also make some nice adjustable ones think I have seen them @ home depot.

Hahaha. Now that you mention a pressure regulator. I was wondering why I found one in a compartment of the boat. It makes sense now
