- - Malibu Boats - Plywood Interior? (http://www.wakeworld.com/forum/showthread.php?t=692042)

I am looking at purchasing a 2001 wakesetter but was told I should stick to Correct Craft or Mastercraft because Malibu used plywood instead of fiberglass in their seat supports and bases. Is this true? Not trying to bash, just want the facts on whether the interior is all fiberglass or not.

aren't you a "superairguy"? just get the correct craft they are great boats.

Malibu boats have not had any wood since the early 90s, just as MC and Correct Craft.

Nice one dude not in many many years have they had wood

But rotted wood is soooo much more comfortable for seat supports than fiberglass... I mean, come ON!

I just bought a 2000 wakesetter in March, No wood anywhere. Awesome boat so far.

saceone 05-01-2009 2:14 PM

SANGER!! They have wood in them and will outlast them all!

SANGER!!

michridr69 05-01-2009 2:36 PM

I had a MC salesmen tell me once, that my Sanger would be completely rotted within 8 years. Guy was an idiot.

I think what malibu has are aluminum floor boards compared to fiberglass for nautique and mastercraft. Its all preference, boats built with fiberglass and boats built with wood are both great, in their own ways. For example look at sport fishing boats, your talking about multimillion dollar yachts. The north carolina custom builders use wood. The reasons are: it's much lighter, it allows for more shapes than typical mold and it can flex in ways that would cause fiberglass to crack. Now the downisde, could rattle when it gets old and does have the ability to rot, also many times the boat may feel less solid. It's all preference but of course the dealer of each boat will tell you one method is better than the other.

Cheech and Chong could make it out of ???

Malibu phased out wood starting in '93 w/ the Echelon and by '95 all wood had been removed from any part of the boat build process. The seat bases in Malibu's ARE NOT WOOD. Simply go take a look at them at your local dealer.

No aluminum in the floor of Malibu's either.

I'm almost certain the floor of my 96 VLX is honeycomb aluminum board. I have a couple dents in it, and it does not feel like fiberglass at all. I know for it's used in the deck lid.

I just got done cutting up alot of stuff in my 2006 Malibu for the new stereo install and everything is a black composite plastic material. Not exactly sure what it is but can guarantee you its not wood!
