wakeboarding is definitely not dying in norcal. i think it's the people that run the california lakes (as in other states) that limits what organizers can do.

behindtheboat 10-02-2007 11:59 AM

Wow, is October just wakeboard elitist whining month or what? It probably changed locations so much because the prior locations couldn't handle/didn't want it?

jarrod 10-02-2007 12:12 PM

Soli,

CIE SpringRide had several pros fly in from Florida...Hansen, Lidberg, House, and others. I think we had Nick Jones from the NW also. We're confronted with trying to maintain a pure, grassroots event, while also trying to bring in the big names to attract more Spring Riders.

CWB and CIE were both supporting the NorCal Mastercraft demo days last weekend. Just a conflict, that's all.

Thank you Scott. We're not even in the same league as Boardstock, but thank you.

bigpapaf1f 10-02-2007 12:18 PM

First off, thanks for all the love guys! Thank you

I had a great time!!! I liked that all the party ppl where at another area. The hotel at the casino for the most part was riders and industry ppl. Made for a good time with out a bunch of tools running around!

Blake, thanks for sharin the room!! Had a kick @$$ time!

wakedad33 10-02-2007 12:19 PM

Keeping spring ride smaller well keep it real, my 2 cents.

bigpapaf1f 10-02-2007 12:27 PM

Oh and Josh, you and Cook got lucky and the Beer Pong table!! Derek's back had to have been killing him after that game, cuz you are a big dude for Derek to have to carey the whole game!!!

My place tonight around 8. The crew and some yelch are comin over. You down? I will hit you up! peace son!!!

romes 10-02-2007 12:59 PM

yelch...hmmmm...yea i'm in for sure. joel n i are bout to ride ab 4 then i guess we'll just "do what we do" and then i'll be over to give you a b-day beat down over the pong table...

and if my memory serves me correct i think i hit ab the last 5 shots i took friday nite...i could be mistaken tho...i had had a lot of sprites at that point.... SON

deltaridah 10-02-2007 1:17 PM

J rod makes since for you guys(cie) to not be in the house. I really wanted to go to demo day too. It was weird not seeing cwb there though. they are a big enough company imo, to be at both events. I had a blast at boardstock, i do so without a single drink, by anyone in our crew. We drove up from east bay for the day just to see the riding. Then after the riding we drove home. I was in heaven for a few days, thinking about all the cool riding i saw. I think the idea is great a huge event to bring people from all over. I have realized though that by doing this its brings the drunks/tools and they ruin it for everyone. I have been to every dra event and the red bull rail jam. I had a blast but i did see how the amount of riders in the delta and the turn out it recieved was a issue. Why do people not support or go to the comps?????

With the amount of riders in the delta area these events should be packed. It is no fault of the dra eiether.I have seen the same people at most of the events at least there is a loyal following.
What can be done to bring more Quality people to these events. On shore at boardstock was a great wakeboard enviroment. kids of all ages and families.

bigpapaf1f 10-02-2007 1:22 PM

Ohio, I bet your right. We had already been drinking for about 5 hours by that time! I forgot all about losing till you guys started talkin shiz the next day. Hell Ry said he gave me the camera and as running around and talking to ppl with it. He said the footage is hella funny. I don't remember that. Who knows what I filmed. He is going to bring it 2night. I want to check it out.

(Message edited by bigpapaf1f on October 02, 2007)

romes 10-02-2007 1:45 PM

ummm yea i dont remember any of that shiz...he prolly didnt either...i'm gonna keep it real and go ahead and admit that Ry and I got super scared in the casino (that place was like the setting of a bad bad serial killer movie) when one of the local "tribes people" decided to stare at Ry and say something scary...not real sure what it was but we both looked at eachother like.."uhh....lets the get the **** outta dodge."

the_bug 10-02-2007 1:48 PM

When what was the biggest wake event of the summer in Nor-Cal is relegated to late September at an Indian res on a lake that is basically a giant septic tank, then yes Andy Parsons, I would say that the great wake industry shark jump of 2007 is nearly complete. Oh, the housing and credit meltdown did not help either.

poon 10-02-2007 2:14 PM

i have a picture or two of boardstock that will be up on the site soon.

bigpapaf1f 10-02-2007 2:36 PM

Arun!!! Good times bro!! It was a lot of fun party n with ya. So when are you goin to come ride with us? Hope we get to kick it again soon. Oh and I will be are Nor Cal MC for sure. Later BG

Ohio, hahaha I forgot all about that!! I think that was the best story I have ever heard ry tell. It was funny as hell. He was freaked out!! His face when he was tell me was priceless!!

rodltg2 10-02-2007 3:00 PM

wakeletter75 10-03-2007 9:57 AM

I was telling everyone we should not do that! But Blake and JR are mean and said they would beat me up if I didn't play!

rodltg2 10-03-2007 1:30 PM

what happened at about 1230am on saturday night? i was sleeping when all of a sudden i hear this " what the f**K" , followed by a run upstairs, and a " im going to through you off this balcony". i was diein laughing...

romes 10-03-2007 1:58 PM

12:30 i was knocked OUT...dont have any clue what was goin on at that point...keepin you up all nite on friday wore me out for saturday...hahah

sanddragon2004 10-03-2007 2:39 PM

I guess im being misread what i wrote,

It just seems that I see lots of press and stuff going on in Florida, Texas, and everywhere else. If you open up the last 6 wakeboard mags seems like there is alot more stuff going on outside the country,

I find this frustrating to me considering there is alot of huge talent here. We do have alot of boat manufactures here as well as aftermarket industry companies here as well. I guess I am just shocked we dont see more stuff going on in cali.

I wish we did. I have been to the CIE events, I have been to the DRA events just seems like it for the amount of people in the valley and itno wakeboarding we dont have more press and event coverage.

sanddragon2004 10-03-2007 2:42 PM

oops i meant state outside the state haha not country!

xmarksthespot 10-04-2007 9:55 AM

guido 10-05-2007 10:16 AM

BG in the house.... repin' the dirty D.

It's sad what Konocti has resorted to. It's become more about making money than it is about promoting the sport. I think there is equal responsibility between the promoters and the venue. We had a great time last year, but were very turned off by the rediculously inflated prices.

Luckily there is actually quite a bit going on in the Cali wake scene. Between Nor-Cal INT, DRA and the Spring Ride we've got some fun stuff to keep you busy in Nor-Cal. I'd also love to see more events and places for us to join other riders, but it's tough from a logistics perspective. Everything you do is a battle to get support from sponsors, venues and local authorities. We've been fortunate enough to have some great sponsors show up for our events, but it's far different in the wake industry where there are fewer large companies with deep pockets to throw at events. It gets better every year, but we're still a part of a small community.

FWIW.... Spring Ride will be back at Tulloch again this year. Bigger and better than ever. Keep an eye out for dates and info in the next few months. Hopefully we'll have the usual huge Wake World crowd that makes it so much fun. Who knows... This might be the year we work out a second event later in the season if people think it sounds like fun.

(Message edited by guido on October 05, 2007)

<!-quote-!>quote:
It's become more about making money than it is about promoting the sport.<!-/quote-!>

It's been about the money for the past 5 years or so...ever since they trademarked the name and tried to charge people in Stockton to tie up their boat on the line...lame.

Ben Kerran 10-05-2007 12:07 PM

Evan-People think it sounds like fun, so get going on that 2nd event. Although I had fun at Boardstock and saw some SIC riding, it definitely had a much different feel (for me) than the CIE/DRA/INT events. I am eagerly awaiting CIE's announcement of Springride dates already!

sanddragon2004 10-05-2007 1:05 PM

I may try to roll to spring ride that was a fun event!

I would love to get more involved with more DRA stuff next year. My biggest concern is being in a non kid friendly enviro. Id attend every DRA and Event on the delta if it was more family oreinted like the old ski clubs used to be.

My party days are pretty much over due to the fact i have kids, But seems like the delta is more of a party scene for the 25 under crowd.

Somebody please prove me wrong. A friend of mine has said the DRA is all about families so im gonna make it a point to make as many DRAs as possible next summer.

romes 10-05-2007 1:23 PM

the dra that i rode in was a very family-oriented environment...there's always going to be a younger crowd bc that's who's riding for the most part but other than that there were ppl of all ages there.

lyss 10-06-2007 12:54 AM

ok guys...anyone who was at BoardStock knows it was crackin'!! This was my first one and I can only imagine what the past ones were like. Yes we all know the turn out was not like we had hoped, but everything turned out great! BoardStock doesn't have a permanent home yet because communities can't handle the craziness that goes along with it! And as far as corporate...thats a funny one....Also keep in mind that it takes a lot of money to run BoardStock which is why we charge at the gate. We were lucky to have one this year...In the end I just want to say thanks to everyone who came out and to those who didn't...hope to see you next year!!

scott_a 10-06-2007 8:36 AM

<!-quote-!>quote:
BoardStock doesn't have a permanent home yet because communities can't handle the craziness that goes along with it!<!-/quote-!>

...or underaged drinking, 13 year olds' boobs, or the drugs...basically, it's not that people can't handle boardstock, it's that they dont wanna handle boardstock due to all the sketchy crap that goes down...not to mention the possibility of losing their liquor license.

deltaridah 10-06-2007 9:39 AM

ya scott god forbide if people have fun and some get a little to loose, but dont big gatherings events draw the same crowds. I have seen much more partying in lots of differant venues. they have had issues but some does every event.

Alyssa, girl think before yu speak uou are adding fuel to the fire. what community would want crazyness? and corporate yes of cousre you guys are. the charging thing was rediculous. everytime i turned around someone had their handout.

I went from 95 to 99 when it was still at Shasta (the real boardstock) great times, did I mention it didn't cost anything to party and watch pro wakeboarding

lyss 10-06-2007 9:11 PM

Soli...You don't really know what you are talking about....and Scott your right...but most of that stuff happens on the boats and we don't have much control over that. Not enough security on the water...thats one of the reasons the resort lost there liquor license last year...If you guys have ideas for next year...let us know...

deltaridah 10-07-2007 10:32 AM

ok Alyssa, please do correct me, how was i wrong.
I think i major problem with boardstock is that the event company uses wakeboarding as the theme of the event, but no one running the event has anything to do with wakeboarding. they use riding as a excuse to throw a huge party, instead of the party being in celebration of wakeboarding and the lifestyle. how can this be done by a corporate outsider???? the two people on here from the event company just regstered on here to promote the event, and have no other interest in this site except for that.

lyss 10-07-2007 10:10 PM

Soli...please tell me who are the two people who run the event? Who is the founder and president of BoardStock and who is the Vice President? Can you tell me where the office is based out of? Be honest with me how much do you really know about BoardStock...besides what you see?? Do you know where the money goes for BoardStock or better yet where most of it comes from? If you knew any of this stuff you wouldn't be saying half the things you say...do some research...then get back to me.

riverratboarder 10-07-2007 10:36 PM

I have been going to Boardstock since 97 at Shasta. The only reason I have had fun that last few years at Clear Lake was I was doing BMX demos. The first year at the delta was OK because it was on houseboats still. Then when it got moved to Stockton and Tower Park there was a whole bunch off Stockton type gansta and homie brawling everywhere. I only saw a few altercation at Clear Lake the last few. What will save this event is go back to the roots. Houseboats at Shasta. I know Kathy and Rob at Boarstock are doing what they think is right for them and Boardstock. It might have been netter at the Casino if it was a little earlier and warmer. It was a good location with good water and beach front veiwing.

lyss 10-07-2007 11:10 PM

Thank you Mike!!!!!!!!! Enough said!

deltaridah 10-08-2007 8:17 AM

exactly mike its been getting worse and worse as as far as the actual wakeboarding community goes. I never said i knew everyone involved what i did say is that its disconected from the wakeboard community here, and you margaret walker have nothing to do with wakeboarding and are using ww posts as a advertising medium. and all the info your asking me for ya actually i do know, its on the website and i have been doing my own research for business reasons. is it for sale yet????

rockstar7 10-09-2007 9:28 PM
