Erik Perez, he gets my vote <BR> <BR>(Message edited by soulrider911 on July 26, 2006)

Any list without Matt Medved and Kaesen Suyderhoud is seriously lacking. Matt is smooth as they come and makes technical tricks look easy. Kaesen slides better than any other NorCal rider bar none, and if you don't believe it try your hand against him at the next NorCal INT event in the Slider division, or at the next NorCal WWA event. Also Blake Cannon kills it, especially landing and riding blind. Tanner Sheldon is a Sac. rider who is very fun to watch and goes huge. The ladies mentioned, Raequel, Shawna, and Shelby definitely deserve to be on the list. Billy Tonis does more with one arm than anyone would believe without seeing it, and so he's on my list, plus he's a heck of a nice guy. If Fresno is considered NorCal, then don't forget Tony Carroll.

dcervenka 07-26-2006 1:11 AM

oh yeah and Doug Goodman.. does Los Banos count as norcal?

buffalow 07-26-2006 7:26 AM

Wow this sounds like a running order for Delta Sessions 1 &amp; 2....

jarrod 07-26-2006 7:29 AM

I don't know if he still rides, but Ian Kirk should be way up at the top of that list too with Mat Medved.

stephan 07-26-2006 9:18 AM

Dr. Doud is back in Central Ca, going to school and rehabbing his knee. Jared Couch is also a Central Ca rider, he just makes his summer home in McClure at WCC. Lastly I think a fella named Brian Austerman should be on there. Buffalow, you know the guy, he had a tiny section in DS1. Anyone doing multiple 7's, switch mobes and 313's is a shredder.

cali_rider 07-26-2006 9:24 AM

i have agree with the people listed but what about Garrett Morris as well?

dcervenka 07-26-2006 9:40 AM

Joe already listed Garrett "G-Unit" Morris <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/wink.gif" border=0> <BR> <BR>Oh yeah Austerman.. Good Call! Is he back yet? I know he re-injured his knee and was out for a while..

walt 07-26-2006 9:41 AM

Brandon George

parkgirl 07-26-2006 9:56 AM

Austerman for sure...he gets to start riding again next month.

norcalwwa 07-26-2006 10:10 AM

J-rod, Ian Kirk is still riding. He rode at Nor Cal WWA's comp this past weekend.

jarrod 07-26-2006 10:46 AM

So he did...4th place <BR> <BR>Ian kills it. I wish he would land a couple of video sections. He didn't seem interested in exposure though....great guy. I miss his camp.

stephan 07-26-2006 11:04 AM

Austerman hurt himself again? The last time I rode with him he was recovering from his first surgery. If you folks ride with him, tell him Steve from San Luis Obispo says hey. <BR> <BR>Add to list: Marcus Kistler

unclejessie 07-26-2006 1:18 PM

TommyC, you forgot (or don't know about) Matt Norton. His healside and toeside 7's are sick. <BR> <BR>UJ

summerryder 07-26-2006 1:30 PM

Yo! Nor-Cal people! have you forgotten the true Godfather of NorCal riding? The proprietor of SolBound Bindings? The Great Mike Rogers needs to be given some attention for his vast contributions, and if you don't think the old guy still has plenty of game, he'd be happy to show you otherwise. <BR>And Rogers, I'm sure you're out there reading this. Repsond with one of your online alias's and let 'em know!

dakid 07-26-2006 1:40 PM

not to disrespect mike rogers, but when i think of the godfather of norcal riding, the only name that comes to mind is greg nelson. he's originally from washington then moved to norcal, right? didn't he used to ride w/ bill mccaffray in washington?

guido 07-26-2006 1:47 PM

I've gotta give a hand to the fifty-one-fifty boys out at the delta, too. Joel, Ryan, Bud, and Brandon absolutely kill it with a ton of style. Those guys all charge soo hard. That's the best part about nor-cal, at any given time you could be out riding and see some sick stuff go down. <BR> <BR>I don't even know where I'd start to put a list together. I think everyone on here is on the right track, but each rider has got something that the others lack. I guess that's one of the best parts about wakeboarding is 10 guys/gals could do the same trick and each one would look different. Each could put their own spin on it so I'd have a hard time really putting the top 25 in order. <BR> <BR>Joe, I appreciate being on your list, but I'm way outclassed by so many others that kill it. I'm just stoked to have the privilige of knowing, riding with a lot of those guys at one point or another.

wakebmxer 07-26-2006 2:37 PM

Greg Nelson Sold out...... He is corporate now. He makes money and has a hot wife(or did) but sold his Co. Double up and then went to work for the bigest Corporate operation out there(Cope McPheters) but he did rip and I bought all his shiznit back in the day. Mike Rogers was and is TRUE to the bone about wakeboarding and where it came from. RESPECT.......

guido 07-26-2006 2:51 PM

LOL..... Greg is a killer rider, but anyone that says they'd "rather just go play golf." Definitely isn't feeling the love anymore. I don't blame him for following the cash, but I don't think he qualifies as a Norcal ripper anymore if he doesn't even want to ride.

solo 07-26-2006 3:22 PM

Joe, <BR> <BR>Greg and Billy are both Northwest boys, not Nor Cal boys IMO.

dakid 07-26-2006 4:19 PM

mike, do you even know the story between nelson and double-up? it doesn't sound like it at all. that's fine if you want to back mike rogers up. that's way cool, in my book. but i don't think it's cool at all that you talk smack about nelson in the process of defending mike. <BR> <BR>(Message edited by dakid on July 26, 2006)

solo 07-26-2006 4:26 PM

Greg's a pimp in my book. He married Evelyn Zerr!

ttrigo 07-26-2006 4:28 PM

Sell out or not, I would rank Nelson up there with the most innovative and stylish riders the sport has seen. I may be wrong, but isn't he the first rider to bring the snowboard/hitting rails feel to the sport? <BR>but I think we are getting a little off topic. <BR>a lot of great riders listed in the previous posts.

wakebmxer 07-26-2006 4:42 PM

Hey Joe, I do know that he sold "a rider owned company", then went to work for Cope and when I was gonna carry LF wakebords at my skatepark which is 20 minutes away from the nearest Cope dealer, he called LF and bitched so I couldnt sell LF. Other than that I dont know much. But he did rip and loved his riding style. Not a big busines fan though.

kevin_bird 07-26-2006 11:00 PM

Definately Brian Austermen, he is crazy to watch ride definately the most gifted rider ive ever seen wakeboard. Also marcus Kistler from Escalon. He throws down big 313. Def. dont forget Tim Nilsen the sac area And dont Forget Mark Castelanelli with consistent big worms. He also does switch tantrum to blind switch and reg whirlys and toe sevens not bad for having knee surgery about 18 months ago. The rest have been named. These were a few riders who i hadnt seen mentioned and just absolutely kill it! Also dont forget Andrew Schaeffer.

jarrod 07-27-2006 8:20 AM

Mike: So you think Grag should have lived his life broke to avoid "selling out" and getting a good job? <BR> <BR>If he would have started a new career with a large corporation not in the wake industry would that have been selling out? Or is it only selling ot because he wanted to stay in the industry he loves? <BR> <BR>"he called LF and bitched so I couldnt sell LF." <BR> <BR>That's business! Get over it.

tommyc 07-27-2006 8:26 AM

I gues I forgot one more rider: <BR>AustermenNilsenCastelanelliSchaefferNortonKirk SuyderhoudMedvedCouch

dragginby 07-27-2006 9:23 AM

If people are posting guys like Greg Nelson, then what about Cory Kraut or Darren Razor....Weren't they Nor Cal guys???

wakebmxer 07-27-2006 9:42 AM

No....but I do think if someone is preaching rider owned and for the riders and then goes where he did and did what he did thats being hipocritical. <BR> <BR>"he called LF and bitched so I couldnt sell LF." <BR> <BR>That's business! Get over it." <BR> <BR>Bad business, his shop was 20 minutes away and I am a rider owned shop/park. Why would his big corporation be worried about a little guy like me. The same way Mr.Cope wouldnt put RiverRat flyers in the shop cause they have a wake school in Sac. IN SAC, not here in the North Bay..... <BR> <BR>Let me refrase something ...back in the Day he ripped, I bought a double up Nelson, Double up bindings the whole 9....He ripped and was one of the OG shredders, I thought this was a current top 25 list. He isnt current. Mike Rogers still rides and shreds. I was comparing the two. He makes money and I dont blame him for doing that but he isnt that "true NorCal rider" that people are claiming. And he didnt stay true to his Original "rider owned, non corporate idealistics " that I admired back in the day. My Opinion, from my Experiemce with him.

guido 07-27-2006 9:50 AM

Woa! Did someone say Darren Razor. I saw him in Safeway at Disco Bay, but that's the closest I've seen him to water in years.

dakid 07-27-2006 9:59 AM

excellent post, jrod. <BR> <BR>ronnie and mike, the only reason i brought up nelson's name is because jeff barton called mike rogers "the godfather of norcal riding." <BR> <BR><blockquote><hr size=0><!-quote-!><font size=1><b>quote:</b></font><p>Bad business, his shop was 20 minutes away and I am a rider owned shop/park. Why would his big corporation be worried about a little guy like me.<!-/quote-!><hr size=0></blockquote> <BR> <BR>if you thought that was bad business, then you need to take a few business classes. worried about a little guy like you? you were breaking one of the biggest rules in sales...territory! sorry to say but you were a day late and a buck short to start selling liquid force. copes had every right to call lf. <BR> <BR>if you think nelson didn't stay true, then you didn't stay true either...you charged people for goods and services.

wakelvr 07-27-2006 10:06 AM

What happened to supporting your local board shops? If Cope's is the only shop that could sell LF, well then, no thanks!

dakid 07-27-2006 10:09 AM

within that particular shop's territory. and if copes is in your town, wouldn't they be your local board shop? <BR> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/uhoh.gif" border=0>

lzyboy 07-27-2006 10:13 AM

R. Facciano aka Whispers is another legendary cat around the Disco area / Nor Cal. I haven't seen DR in years either but he used to kill it as well. <BR> <BR>These guys may not be in the current top 25 but when I think of the Delta they come to mind. <BR> <BR> <BR>Lzy

wakelvr 07-27-2006 10:18 AM

Arun's shop is much closer? Do you support his shop? I believe both shops sell Obrien gear. Should Arun stop selling? I don't believe so. <BR>You might think I am out of line here, but I would hate to see Cope's turn into a monopoly.

dakid 07-27-2006 10:25 AM

have i shopped at arun's shop? nope...i haven't had to buy anything wake related. will i? maybe if i was in san jose. is arun's shop my local shop? he's over 2hrs away from me, how is that local? <BR> <BR>with all that said, i've pushed his shop many times in here. you're a mod, you should know that. <BR> <BR>i understand your hatred for copes, and i think you're misunderstanding my point. i'm not pushing copes, but business is business.

wakelvr 07-27-2006 10:42 AM

I am not talking about you personally. I am making a point that there are other businesses out there that are closer to Cope's and are selling the same products as Cope's. Should they not sell their products because they are in the same territory as Cope's? I think it is too bad that Mike can't sell LF products. Sure, that's business. That is SUCKY business IMO!

juiced4ever 07-27-2006 10:51 AM

Whispers lives in Florida these days. And what about Igor. If you are out in the wee hours of the morning up here in Truckee he is out with me about once a week.

mendo247 07-27-2006 11:01 AM

what happened to competition... i think a little competition is good for everyone! if your service and prices are good you shouldnt have anything to worry about..

wakebmxer 07-27-2006 11:08 AM

I understand Territiry DUDE! Ski World Santa Rosa sold Liquid force around the corner from them (you could walk from shop to shop)and he never said anything about them. I am 20 minutes down the freeway over a Mtn. They are not my local board shop. Hammers(Petaluma) is and they didnt have LF at the time. So i went to Ski World SR. Hammers in Petaluma does now carrying LF and they are next door, and Greg never said anything about them carrying LF. Do you own your own business???? I do ....2 of em. Indoor bike and skatepark and a wakeboard school. I pay $7 grand amonth rent, and have been in business for a few years so I am doing something right......If it werent Greg Nelsons name you guys would agree with me, but since he is an Icon I am getting it from you guys......LOL ...love the internet. I dont hate Cope, I just dont respect the way they do business. The front office that is. There are plenty of cool guys and girls that work there. <BR> <BR>(Message edited by WakeBMXer on July 27, 2006)

mendo247 07-27-2006 11:13 AM

i think i could walk down santa rosa ave and find atleast 3 shops all seliing lf and hyp lol.. <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/lol.gif" border=0>

dakid 07-27-2006 11:19 AM

i don't know why you felt the need to post your resume, but ok. <BR> <BR>ski world might be a bad example. they both have had accounts w/ liquid force for a long time now. <BR> <BR>it has nothing to do w/ nelson. in fact, when i first heard a few years back that nelson was going to work for copes, i thought, "that sucks." <BR> <BR>nevertheless, business is business.

wakelvr 07-27-2006 11:22 AM

Mike, it is a double standard. Joe accuses you of breaking a territory rule but he supports his buddy's shop that is closer to Cope's than you are. Hmmmm....

dakid 07-27-2006 11:32 AM

no, it's not a double standard. of course i support arun's shop. what's wrong w/ supporting a friend's shop? now, if he was asked to stop carrying a certain brand because of territory issues, that's his deal, between the company and his shop. would i think it sucks? of course, he's my friend. but it all comes back to "business is business." <BR> <BR>seriously stef, you need to chill. go ride, go hang out w/ your kid, whatever it is that makes you happy. <BR> <BR>(Message edited by dakid on July 27, 2006)

walt 07-27-2006 11:41 AM

You guys all have good points but like Richard said there are a few other shops selling the same sticks with in two miles of Ultimate so it's odd IMHO that a guy two cities away (20 miles give or take) can't push a few boards.

walt 07-27-2006 11:44 AM

Oh yeah....What was this thread about ? <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/lol.gif" border=0>

dakid 07-27-2006 11:44 AM

yeah, it does suck walt. but like i keep saying, "busines is business" and you just deal with it. you don't go on a public forum (public cause anyone can read it) and go on the attack. and i'm sure it wasn't nelson that made the call (decision). i'm sure it was a higher-up, so i can understand mike's frustrations with them. <BR> <BR>but yeah, can you nuke all my posts in this thread? they do nothing positive for this thread. (i'm surprised stefani hasn't done so already) <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/lol.gif" border=0> <BR> <BR>(Message edited by dakid on July 27, 2006)

wakelvr 07-27-2006 11:45 AM

Business is business, fine. I would be angry too if I were in Mike's shoes. I don't like this territory BS. Don't tell me to chill Joe I am very relaxed:-)

wakebmxer 07-27-2006 12:11 PM

I am dealing with it. I am still in Business. I am in business more to give kids a place to skate and bike and stay out of trouble. I have a shop to help support the outragous rent. I have a wake school also and wanted to incorporate wake stuff in my shop since I really ride. I will admit I am not a cut throat business guy, more about supplying a good honest service and if that makes me a bad businessman....I am. I sleep good knowing what I am giving the community and have plenty of parents supporting and complimenting me on doing what nobody else is or has done.

jarrod 07-27-2006 12:38 PM

Territory isn't BS. It's very real in sales. LF and Copes saw Mike as a channel conflict with their biggest dealer. Anyone that knows copes knows that if you piss them off, you loose their business..period. And no Mfger wants to stop receiving Copes purchase orders. Every rep out there is kissing Cope ass. <BR> <BR>For all we know, the order to call was given by a higher power than Greg.

wakebmxer 07-27-2006 12:52 PM

The LF rep told me he would love to have me as a dealer especially since I am a skatepark and a wake school but Greag called and said.....something.It was 2 days after I was hanging with Greg at a boat show and told him my plan. I believe in Territory but Santa Rosa Ski and Sport and Ski Worrld were within 5- 10 miles of Copes and I am 20 - 30 minutes over a Mtn. There is a new skate(Gone Surfing) shop moving in across the street from me to sap of my business so I am aware of territory problems. But it comes down to money. This shop has a Big store in RP and sell alot of stuff. So the companies dont care about me cause I am new and smaller. I had been trying to get new shoe accounts but the shoe distributors were being hard asses Cause I am new and not HUGE yet. But you have to start somewhere. Daddy didnt right a check for an already established business. I started it from NOTHING...... wasnt this a top 25 rider posting???? Got to Love it.....

wakelvr 07-27-2006 1:01 PM

"Anyone that knows copes knows that if you piss them off, you loose their business..period." <BR> <BR>That doesn't surprise me one little bit. Too bad and very, very sad....

eubanks01 07-27-2006 1:01 PM

Wow, and to think that Walt called ME out for being off topic. <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/biggrin.gif" border=0> <BR> <BR>I vote for Brady from Walt's pics alone.

jarrod 07-27-2006 1:09 PM

Well...what the hell...we established the top 25 days ago..might as well talk about something else.. <BR> <BR>A couple of weeks ago my buddy Adam Kruise was up at this BMX ramp place up north where he was contemplating his first back flip into a foam pit. He was talking about this big dood that was absolutely killin it. After Walt posted your pics I put it together...it was your place, and you were "that big dood throwing down" <BR> <BR>You might know him. He hangs with this kid named Andrew that rides a dirt jump style bike. <BR> <BR>This is him: Pics by me <BR> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/350528.jpg" alt="Upload"> <BR><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/350529.jpg" alt="Upload">

wakebmxer 07-27-2006 1:23 PM

yeah I recognize. Andrew is cool. I dont know Adam as good though. Nice pics. And I vote for Brady as well with Schwene and Aaron Aubrey 2 and 3. <BR> <BR>P.S. Copes will get you one way or another. I just bought a new sac there yesterday and was filling it up just now and got wrapped up in this post and blew it out.....Good Bye $160 <BR> <BR>(Message edited by WakeBMXer on July 27, 2006)

There is always costco, lol <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/wink.gif" border=0>

erik_c 07-27-2006 2:04 PM

I am trying to stay out of this thread Stefani! please dont make me start posting. <img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/lol.gif" border=0>

calabria_man 07-27-2006 2:26 PM

What about Andrew Shaffer?

erik_c 07-27-2006 2:28 PM

All right I cant not post. I don’t want to nor do I think that I can change you're opinion here Mike, but just for those who do not know what we are talking about here. The issue is that when a dealer agrees to sell a product they sign a dealer agreement that can include a no competition clause where in that the manufacturer agrees to not sell to other competing shops in the area so long as the dealer agrees to buy in sufficient quantities. And I know that you think that you would be a small blip on the radar but this is a small industry that we are in here and I think that you would understand that the North Bay especially is a tough market. So every sale counts and that’s just how it has to be in a world with dealer agreements. I am sorry Stefani but business cant always be nice. I have been on the same side of the coin as you with Lf, ski world was also not allowed to sell Lf after they reorganized a few years back to the best of my knowledge that included the Santa Rosa store if they had Lf it would have been only older stuff. Hammers might be able to because they had an existing account with them but it is nearly impossible to open up a new account these days so I wish you luck. I can’t comment on Nelson's behalf but he just prefers to play golf these days. If that makes him not hard-core then he is not hard-core I guess that counts myself out of the hard-core club as well. Also if you want classics Nor Cal guy what about Cobe?

dakid 07-27-2006 2:32 PM

nicely put erik. <BR> <BR>what about cobe? he's an orlando transplant! haha! <BR> <BR>cobe seems to be doing well w/ his mb stuff up here in sac. i'm not so sure he's riding as much, but i'm guessing he gets behind the boat every now and then.

erik_c 07-27-2006 2:38 PM

Thanks Joe, <BR>Cobe spent the summers of his youth on donner. That doesent count?

dakid 07-27-2006 2:40 PM

to me it does! <BR> <BR>we'll be hangin' w/ cobe next week in the tahoe area. we'll see if he gets behind the boat.

lzyboy 07-27-2006 2:45 PM

If we are talking bout old school rippers we cant forget Cordell &amp; his monkey spins (RIP). <BR> <BR>This post has got me thinking &amp; made me realize the ABUNDANCE of talent we have coming out of Nor*Cal - past, present &amp; future.

boardsoldier 07-27-2006 2:46 PM

I vote 4 Birdo!!!

wakelvr 07-27-2006 3:06 PM

Erik, Thank you for the tactful post. I may not agree with this business practice, nor do I think it is completely fair, but now I understand more on how this practice works:-)

Cobe is definately a NorCal OG. I was wondering when somebody would mention him. We should start an all time NorCal top 25 list. <BR> Kobe , <BR> Mike Rogers, <BR> Josh Smith, <BR> Eric Smaltz, <BR> Darren Razor <BR> to get things started

Nelson a sell out- Come on Mikey. The guy sold his business for a profit. Than took a job in the industry to make a profit. He still designs boards and ensure that quality stuff stays in the shops. Don't we all have to work to live? At least he does what he loves. <BR> <BR>By the way, as I recall Mike Rogers - the man himself - worked for the cope's to raise money to sell solbound products - is'nt he back to carpentry? I love the guy like a brother, but let's get real here. We have to pay bills and take car of our families. <BR> <BR>My votes would include, cobe, rayzor, smith, storrer, nelson, igor and schmaltz and facciano -old school.
