Caribbean vacation ideas 4 (surfing, kiteboarding and wakeboarding)

Hello fellow wakeboarding friends,

I can use some advise on a Caribbean or Central America. Criteria is as follows in order of importance.

Time frame April 16 - May 31 a week in this area.

- Caribbean Islands or Central America
- Surfing (priority) experence (Wake surfed only.....skill level 1-10 about a 4) (rental needed)
- kiteboarding (2nd priority) experence negative (rental and lessons needed)
- Wakeboarding (luxury idea maybe not feasible in caribbean)
- Cable park (i dont the Caribbean or Central America has one yet)

Any vacation suggestions would be great maybe you had this vacation already and found a great place.

Best Jim

Brazil could satisfy all of these and more. Plenty of beaches for surfing, they have a few cable parks, there is wakeboarding and you could most likely kite board there too. Rio is where we went and the surfing was ok to epic depending on the day. The cable parks are closer to Sao Paulo.

Good luck, that is a fun problem to have.

Waves start dying in the caribbean and begin picking up in the pacific around March. Since you need rentals and possibly lessons, the most developed country is costa rica and is your best bet for all of the above... except the cable

Either Jaco or Tamarindo in Costa Rica would be your best bet in Central America for learning to surf. Both places have beginner waves nearby and plenty of places where you can rent a board and get a lesson. You definitely want to get a lesson, start out on a longboard, and make sure your arms are in really good shape (lots of reps and cardio) before you go. There are also a ton of other things to do in CR if you get worn out surfing.

Odds are you aren't going to find much surfing in the Caribbean. They tend to not have many waves around most of the islands. Some of the all inclusive resorts have wakeboarding, like sandals. Not sure about kite surfing. All that aside, scuba diving is the best activity you can do in the water down there.

I've heard costa Rica has great surfing.

I can vow for that! Costa Rica has incredible surfing (look further than tourist traps Jaco and Tamarindo, so many much nicer places around), the VERY BEST wakeboarding (well OK that's a bit exagerated, but really, it's nice! ;) at Lake Arenal. Kiting is really good too, but the season ends in April somewhere, usually. For kiting go to Bahia Salinas or Lake Arenal. No cables in Latin America yet, though they're setting a Sesitec up in Panama now if I'm correct.
Contact me if you want more info about Costa Rica, I'd be glad to help out.
