I know a lot of you out there wake surf and I have been dying to try it. Just wondered how dangerous it is? I mean most of the time your about 5-10ft from the teak and prop. Anyone ever fall forward and hit there head or anything on the teak or worse get hung up in the prop?

I have an inboard so it's pretty much impossible to get into the prop. I'd have to fall forward at the same time the driver through it into reverse. I definitely DO NOT recommend using an Outboard or I/O for wakesurfing because there is a chance, although slight, of getting into the prop.

I've also never come close to hitting the swimstep. To me the biggest danger is getting caught up in the rope or handle when falling.
I have run into the back of the boat several times with the board. the worst I have been gooned is by the handle and rope. Make sure you do not let any rope dangle behind you when you are using it....very, very bad idea. I speak from experience. Now that I throw the rope in the boat I don't have to be concerned about that any more.

Yes, it can be dangerous. In fact today I was surfing today and accidently tossed the handle right into my friends' nuts while he was sitting on the back. It was funny as hell, he tried to peg me back w/the handle but I avoided it.

It's a great low impact chillin' sport. I'm addicted to it big time. I rode for about 20 minutes today w/out getting my hair wet.

As far as hitting the boat, I've come close a few times while riding behind boats w/o perfect pass and when boat slowed down too much.

(Message edited by parkcityxj on September 25, 2003)

It is possible, although unlikely, to hit the swim step with your head when you start to try 3's.

Jay, are you going to make it out to Mead next week??

I'm rolling to Mead for sure. My crew has pretty much flaked out on me, so I may be rolling solo. Looking forward to riding behind the new boats and meeting you guys.

Sounds like you all are tearing it up on the Landlock. Erica said the small fins on the Landlock make it way more fun, can't wait to try it out.
