Lake Travis question

I am going down to a bachelor party on Lake Travis outside of Austin, TX. Unfortunately, none of the other guys wakeboard and they were talking about renting a pontoon to cruise around the lake for 4 hours

I am along for the ride since it's not my party. Is Lake Travis big? any particular direction we should go or houses we should check out from the water?

Also, what is the alcohol law down there? Are you allowed open containers?

Any help is appreciated.

Travis is a large lake, but the area is in exceptional drought right now and the lake is very low and dropping more every day.

depends on where you rent from but most party goers end up in Devils Cove. You can drink but the driver should be a DD. Ask the marina for directions. Chances are the lake will be trashed by the time you head out so riding is probably out...

on weekdays your pretty much good for good water in most coves, but on a weekend i would say get as far away from mansfield dam as possible, pedernales area.

lake travis is around 50 miles long.

the main part of the lake is infested with wallies, powerturners and wind, good luck finding good water on a weekend.

sandy creek cove is a good place to go if you dont have the gas to get up towards the pedernales

If you're renting a pontoon, go direct to devils cove. On a busy weekend devil's cove is perfect for a bachelor party. Drivers can consume alcohol, but must be under .08 at all times.

Rent the afternoon slot.

If you want to wakeboard or cruise and don't mind a captain driving you, check out lake austin. You can't rent commercially, but there are plenty of private individuals on craigslist who will take you out for the day. Lake austin is better suited for water sports.

I appreciate all the info guys. I would love to be able to wakeboard, just don't think I will be able to. If we are close enough to Devils Cove, i suppose we will stop by there for a bit. I think they are only planning on renting the boat for 4 hours, so we won't be able to do much.
