bftskir 04-11-2012 11:02 PM

geez that second car behind the truck might have gotten through by a proverbial hair

jarrod 04-12-2012 10:18 AM

damn that was nasty! No way anyone lived in that car. Brutal.

Laker1234 04-12-2012 11:16 AM

That is horrible. I assume that was from a police cruiser video. So scary

I saw that a while back. I spent many years driving on ice and snow all winter long. Rule #1 - slow down! You can see he pulls out to pass the truck and when the car in front pulls back into the right lane he starts speeding up to pass and loses control.

Once I was driving down a hill and got into the slush between the tire tracks (just like this guy did) - tracks were just wet since it wasn't that cold that day. I lost control and fishtailed and the car spun around backward into the oncoming lane of traffic. Thank God nobody was coming and I was able to get the car stopped before it went off the side of the mountain. I sat there for a split second sideways in the other lane with smoke and steam coming off my tires from the long spin. I got it started, turned around and went on my way. I still think about that day - I was lucky. Had a truck been coming I'd have been a grease stain like the guys in that video.

holy crap that is insane.

Same thing as Big D happened to me, a little slush got between my jeeps tires and spun me around towards a group of cars putting their chains on on the outside of a right corner, cranked the wheel to the left and spun the extra 180 missing everyone by a foot or two. Could not believe i didn't make impact. The drive up to Tahoe tomorrow is going to take a lot longer I'm driving slow as hell in the storm tomorrow.

When I was working at Kirkwood I was headed up 88 once and started skidding in slomo towards the cliff - nearly shat myself and had the door open ready to jump out but got control back and drifted to the opposite side of the road. And wasn't even going 20 mph! Doesn't take much...

autotunner69 04-12-2012 9:26 PM

same video, a bit better quality-not that we want to see it any better. this one has a full description of where it happened.
puts a knot in the stomach and makes you sick to see it. INSANE FOR SURE!

The van just explodes! I wouldn't imagine that it would look like that.

humboldt9 04-13-2012 2:52 PM

I just got back from Tahoe City yesterday and let's just say I won't be ignoring chain control after that one... Wow!

jfergus7 04-14-2012 11:34 AM

That is absolutely terrible. Just goes to show how quick everything can change.
