How deep are your under platform transom lights located?

I'm curious how others transom lights are mounted. My goal for mine was to have them deep enough that they were under the water for most of the speeds I'd be going.

I achived that goal, but now I'm kicking myself because the 4 center lights are going to be behind a FAE when I get around to buying/building one. :banghead:

So if you have pics of where yours are mouted, I'd appreciate seeing them. And also hearing how they work in that location. I can certainly move my lights up, but I worry about them being completely out of the water when I'm up on plane.

Whats wrong with them being out of water when on plane? I could be wrong but I believe when you are on plane those in the pics are out of the water...

Mine are up higher than yours and are out of the water when on plane and I have no problems with them being on. I have 2 Seablaze 3s.

Oh and good job on the install, I bet 6 of them is super bright!

They're bright enough that a buddy of mine saw them and needed to go buy more lights! hahaha

each of my lights is supposedly 80 lumens. They are 5.5 watts each with each light having 30 of the 5050 SMD LED chips.

I think height really wouldn't matter on a planing hull. Anything over 8-9 mph and the entire transom will be out of the water aside from a little wash. No biggie, the aerated water in the wake lights up pretty cool.

It probably wouldn't matter much but if you made the FAE out of polished stainless and kept it maintained it would reflect light around under there and minimize the shadow effect.

That's what my thoughts were if it were a polished FAE, but if it ends up being one of PVC/ABS or similar that would cast a shadow. The polished part might actually make it look brighter because it would reflect from the 4 center ones and also reflect some from the sides as well throwing light off to the sides of the platform.

If you really want to get creative, build an FAE similar to what Grant West did for his swim step light bar.

You could build the FAE with brackets on the aft side to house the LEDs. His light bar is the same area as an FAE. Then you would have a sweet FAE and more angles to your lighting. Just a thought.

Here are the lights on my '04 22V. Kinda hard to tell, but they sit 3-4" under the water.

Okay, I guess I won't stress too much about their depth. I'll probably move them up whenever I get around to doing a FAE setup...
