Road Bike Tires
 

What are you guys using for road bike tires. I got my first flat ever over the weekend and it is time to upgrade the stock bontrager select 25mm crap that I have on there. I'm looking to spend about $100 for the pair.

I currently have my Bont Race Lites, which I have been very happy with....but assume these will be my replacements....

I have gone over 3000 miles before flatting with the Gatorskins. Pretty sure I hit 5000 miles before replacing my last set.

I will say that the GP4 Seasons ride a bit softer and better in freezing temps.

Conti GP4000S

I race on Tubulars though and last year trained mostly on Tubulars, got over 3000 miles on a Conti GatorSkin Sprinter before flatting the rear. Sealed with Tufo sealant and it lasted an other month or so before it was visibly wearing down.

I have Vittoria Pave Evo CG II on my Tubular wheels right now. Not sure I like them better than the Conti's, will see how they hold up. http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=Y0086

I have clincher rims and was looking at this set. http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=Y1002 Thoughts on the staggered setup? I am a weekend warrior so I don't need tubular performance and flat protection and comfort is more important than wear or weight. Are the GP4000s that much better?

The Attack/Force combo should be a higher performance set up than GP4000S. I had an older set, 3 years ago I think, of the Attack/Force pair. Road really nice. You'll find that a 24 or 25mm rear rides a bit nicer than a 23. The 22mm Attach front turns a bit quicker. These are all very subtle differences, not like the Attack/Force is way better than the GP4000S, just a little bit better ride. I find it hard to tell the difference between tires most of the time. Things like tire width, inflation pressure, road surface... seem to matter more.

Yep, I get a lot of stuff from them too. I find that Probikekit is usually the cheapest on tires by a decent amount. You have wait longer though. Biketiredirect ships from Portland Ore., and to our house outside of Seattle it's usually 2 days, 3 days is rare and that is with their free shipping on $100 or greater orders.

I find that Biketiresdirect and Probikekit have about the same price on components, but Probikekit being cheaper on Tires and usually cheaper on Chains and Cassettes too.

Biketiresdirect have killer deals on 16g threaded Co2. It has to be shipped by ground which is not an issue with them. I usually toss in some Cliff Blocks and Co2 (if needed) to get orders up to $100 for free shipping.

Ordered tires last thurs, shipped fri, arrived at my house this tuesday. They were somewhat difficult to put on but other than that, worth the $75 I paid for them. Rode some roads today that are usually a little bumpy due to poor pavement. The black chili compound handled them smooth as silk. I would recommend these tires to anyone. Thanks for the input.

I have to agree with Sean - The Conti GP4000 are very supple tires that you will get a ton of miles out of. Other continentals are great as well. They are a little more heavy then other tires but will last longer and hold up to rough roads better in my opinion. Stay away from Hutchenson fusion tires. Not a horrible tire but I dont get nearly the miles out of them as the Continentals and I find that they crack quickly as well.
