Boat "pops" out of gear???

My son took our 220 SANTE out yesterday for the first ride of the year. He said twice when crossing the wake for double ups, the boat seemed to "pop" out of gear and shift to neutral and throttle down to an ideal. I am not sure if it shifted to neutral, but he definately said it throttled back to ideal. Any one have an ideas what the deal is? :(

Did the shifter return to the idle position by it self or was the throttle still pushed forward. If it returned to idle position by it self. Sounds like it could be a shifter problem.

could this just have been a perfect pass issue? was PP even on?

Sounds like something is loose. You hit the bump and it comes undone. Check PP, or your throttle.

Definately check the PP first. My friend just bought a boat and it was having this same issue. Check the throttle cable that runs to the PP solenoid. When you turn on the PP and let it cycle it should tighten that cable up all the way. If there is slack in that cable after the cycle you need to adjust the throttle. Also, you can just add a spring to it to create tension on the cable. Hopefully this helps.

PP recycling

How do I get the perfect pass to recycle?

May not be the same problem, because it was on an I/O, but on my old boat that would happen and it was from the clutch dogs in the lower unit getting ate up and slipping. I'm not sure if the V-Drive has anything similar to that inside of it, but it could be a worst-case scenario thing to look for. Did you check the V-drive oil to make sure it was good? It could easily be a throttle-linkage doing it too, I really doubt it's the PP solenoid. It should have a knob on it and if that knob turns smooth that shouldn't be the problem, plus it probably wouldn't hold a very consistent speed before it would throw out of gear which you would have noticed

I don't know how to "recycle" the Perfect Pass, sorry.

It doesnt "recycle", when you turn the key on the boat it turns everything on and the PP beaps. You can watch the Knob on the Solenoid cycle and take all the tension out of the throttle cable. If that cable is not taught, then you need to adjust it so there is no slack. Or add a spring to take the slack out. This fixed the problem on the MB we worked on. Sorry if i was kind of vauge before.
