well there is this new trex that is currently coming out. its pretty much regular trex, but coated in PVC, my dad owns a small construction company, and just did a job that used this new material as a deck. and there where two 16' lengths left over. lucky me, my rail takes two 16 foot lengths, so i threw it up on my rail today, and im going to take it out to the water tomorrow and hit it with the winch with a few guys.

but the reason for posting this,
is this stuff is supper sippery even dry, i slid my winch board across it and couldnt believe how well it slid dry. this stuff is slippery even on your shoes. cant wait to see it wet and in use.
my point. terrible for a deck. looks awesome for a rail. ill let you guys know how it slides tomorrow.
keep your eyes open for it. might be worth upgrading your rail with it, or using it on a new rail if your planning to build one

cell phone pics. sorry for poor quality

Any idea on the cost to someone going to home depot, I'm sure you dad gets a sweet deal, but the actual cost

lfrider92 02-21-2010 8:32 AM

thanks jay... what ev.
and nick, i dont think you can get it at home depot, its still very new. we are pretty much the only people in california that have it, its that new.
you will most likely have to go to a lumber yard type place. but it costs between $3.85 and $4.00 a foot. its pretty pricey. but ill let you guys know how it works when i get home tonight.

if i remember right, i believe its called trex transcend? something like that.

(Message edited by lfrider92 on February 21, 2010)

What is the advantage of this stuff on a deck over the standard trex?

yodd_tost 02-21-2010 12:49 PM

Azek decking makes a similar product that is readily available and it may be a little cheaper. I can get it for $3.00 a ln ft with my contractor pricing. www.Azek.com

Jay, I think that was just a typo. Everything else in his post is spelled correctly. The only thing that is awful is the punctuation (which is something a high school student may screw up), but I think he knows the difference between the words supper and super lol.

Patrick- this product is like 95% pvc and mixed with flax I think, the regular trex is 50% pvc/plastic and 50% wood chips, this new pvc product is super durable and doesn't scratch as easily as the regular trex ad there is no movement at joints because of there is no wood in the composite.

well guys. just got home and rinsed the gear off. and i had an awesome day. everything worked amazing.

the benefit of this over normal trex on a deck, is this stuff is way stronger and will take more abuse. plus its pretty hard to stain, and it doesnt fade.

but anyways, this stuff slid amazing. even dry, we where able to slide no problem. one of the guys there has ridden on regular PVC pipe, as well as trex. and said it feels like about half way in between the two. i think it had just enough resistance to make it so you dont just slide out, but its slick enough you dont go over the front of your board.
i highly recommend it. awesome stuff

@ Kyle, saw it in other posts of his also. Not making fun or anything, just thought he would like to know he was misspelling a common word.Like I said I made the same mistake back in the day.Sorry if I ruffled your feathers David.
