Has anyone heard about this?

http://sdip.water.ca.gov/overview/gates.cfm

Its going to be a engineering patch to get more water to the pumps for Los Angles. The problem is the more water they pump out the further the salinity creeps (imagine shark fishing in disco bay it could be closer then people believe) into the southern delta. So to correct this (engineer ideas) put gates up at frack's tract to keep the tides from pushing saline water into the delta.

The better fix is to stop sending records amount of water to so cal. to grow water intensive crops in imperial (semi-desert) valley. Implement water saving in new construction in so cal and increase dam capacity at existing facilities. All of which are expensive, where a gate (hindering navigation) is relatively cheap. This is very much a temporary fix not a long term solution to California’s increase water issues.

Not sure if the gates are in the planning phase or the waiting for money phase.

dc

Check out the section where the boats cross. Hope they got funds to hire a fulltime traffic controller in the summer. One of the news reports last year about the condemnation of our island and the general plan for the whole Delta touched upon this last year.

Two more thoughts:

I'm visualizing the current through that thing during tide changes - WOW

and I love the little tractors off in the distance throwing dust clouds into the atmosphere - they got that right!

Where exactly is the head of old river?

I heard that dam was going in right past the pump station near the old barn but it's not clear on the state website. West of Indian slough would be better for us.
