Any one with snap out carpet? Read this.

My brother has an 04 Nautique 211 team edition with snap out carpet. The back side of the carpet has a rubber coating and is dryroting. When you remove the carpet leavs black stuff in the boat. He was considering replacing all of the carpet because of this. I told him to go to Lowes or Home Depot and get some of the rubberized coating that dipp tool handles in. He went and bought 4 quarts of the rubberized coating .

1st He took a wire brush and knocked of all the loose stuff from the back side of the carpet.

2nd swept the carpet clean.

3rd Masked of the edges to ensure no coating would get on the carpet.

4th applied the rubberized coating with a brush(thick coat)

The back side of the carpet is as good as new. This saved him a good chunk of $$$$

that carpet is junk, I had it in my 2005 and just replaced it with a nice carpet set from Corinthian for $375 via the group buy on PN. The plastic dip is probably a one season band aid. Mine was stained, rotted and mildewed. Having the new carpet makes it feel like a new boat.

Malibu now offers a snap out tatami mat as well as snap out carpet. I chose the tatami for my 2010 and I am glad I did. Tatami is like a woven nylon.......kinda like braided ski line. There is no backing to dry rot. The only down side is it is a bit slippery when wet. If I was restoring an older boat, I would toss the carpet and use the tatami instead.

I think it's called Rubber Dip. It's in the paint department. He said just ask for the Rubber Dipp for tool handles.

Same problem on my Centurion, Is this just a one season fix or do you think it might last for awhile?

From the way his looked when it was done. It looks like it will last a while.
