Not sure how much sales tax and registration fees apply in Texas when you buy a used boat from a private seller ? Any Texans out there ?

Thanks

I bought my boat from a private party in Dallas (I live in San Antonio) and I think I had to pay about 6.5% sales tax. The boat was already registered so they charged me a minimal fee to transfer it into my name (like around $10-20 maybe?) Sorry, can't be much more help.

Sales tax on a boat will be 6.125% of the selling price. Many people are less than honest when filling out the papers as far as what the selling price was.

Take that fwiw.

If it's already registered, it's a very nominal transfer free.

Here's all the forms, info, etc. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/boat/

Close - it's 6.25% tax and $50.00 registration every other year for boats over 16ft.

(Message edited by mx21 on March 27, 2005)
