Shanghai --- any one been?
Looking like I'll be heading over to Shanghai for a week before long. Work trip, but will have some free time. Anyone been? Any things to do or avoid?

I've been but can't really give any advice since I only stayed on night then flew out the next morning. I stayed at the Renaissance Shanghai Yu Garden Hotel it was really nice with a cool bar. I took a cab from the airport to the hotel and tought I was going to die LOL. going the wrong way down the highway at about 60 to miss a trafic jam. I made the mistake of getting in the cab of a guy that just walked up and knew how to speak very little english. I should have just waited in line to get a cab. Just know that if they don't print out a reciet thier trying to scam you. Thats what they tried to do to me, They tried to charge triple of what it should cost by just telling me the price instead of running the meter. I acted like I didn't have that much cash and need to go in the hotel to get more and they finally left before the hotel reported them.

Last time I went I called all my card company's and told them the dates I would be there so any charges diffrent than those dates shouldn't happen. Also some American web site won't work over there because thier goverment blocks them. Co-worker told me you couldn't look at porn and I was like bulls$!% not that I really wanted to but I had to see after he said that. He was right it would just go to some chinese advertisement, I think ebay didn't work either but I'm pretty sure wakeworld did.

In transit now, really liking the Business Class experience so far.
Have $500 USD worth of Yuan on me for "non work expense-able" trouble, errrrr fun money, looking forward to the experience. |
