Tonite at dinner my grandfather was saying how a friend of his...well more like a business associate has a helicopter at his cottage. Anyways he was saying how he got his liscence revoked because he been towing skiiers across the lake from the helicopter. When I heard this all I wanted to do was drvie up there and try it out except on a wakeboard. Imagine the possibilites and the tricks you could do. If I were a multi-millionaire like this guy I'd do it all the time. Possibilities are limited because you dont have momentum to do tricks except for the enitial launch. Regardless it would be really fun!

ABout 7 years ago, MT Dew shot a comercial with darin shapiro wakeboarding in like, Iceland, being towed behind a helicopter. It was a sick comercial, there all these iceberg everywhere.

To me that just sounds insane. The danger involved of a chopper flying that low along a body of water scares me. If you want the sensation of flying while you are on a wakeboard, take up kite boarding.

The chopper flying low over the water isn't a danger. You jumping and the tail rotor are.Not to mention you need a heavily weighted line cause when you let go of the line if it touches the tail rotor

wakejump 10-09-2004 7:42 AM

that would be bad. but would be awesome to do.

byerly137pro 10-09-2004 9:52 AM

I assumed they used a really long rope, like 100ft or something like that, I don't know, nonetheless it would still be awesome.

tantrum20 10-09-2004 4:41 PM

I think it would be pretty much like riding the cable with more noise and wind... not exactly what I would consider worth doing... i'd rather use the helicopter to shoot from it... I could watch that helicopter shot part from boombox and listening to justin saying just how incredible it was over and over without getting tired of it... this one time the helicopter was so close that Reggs slashes the wake and the spray hit justin's camera... don't try this without having a good pilot on hand... or else you might end up in a hamburger...

ktmwakeboarder 10-10-2004 11:17 PM

yeah, dangerous as hell, but then you could say you have wakeboarded from a helicopter! If you are wild enough and have the resources, do it and then post some pix on here, i'd love to see them

shredhead 10-11-2004 8:16 AM

We used a 300 ft. rope and barefooted behind my buds Maule on floats.

wakejump 10-11-2004 9:52 AM

aaronlee13 10-12-2004 5:49 PM

socalwakepunk 10-13-2004 4:37 PM

Wow, looks like he's only 2 feet away from certain death.

solo 10-13-2004 4:37 PM

Kinda looks like he's jibbing off the tail huh?

byerly137pro 10-13-2004 6:01 PM

Yah but is the rope connected to a boat or is it connected to the helicopter.

wake_101 10-13-2004 7:39 PM

yeah pic kinda looks fake becuase of rope positioning.....looks like hes just infront of a helicopter and sombody snapped a shot to make him look cool

socalwakepunk 10-13-2004 7:44 PM

I mean his head only look like it's less than 2 feet below the main rotor.

Larry Linkogle actually had a mark on his helmet from the main rotor of a helicopter. Happened while filming some FMX stunts for XXX.

socalwakepunk 10-13-2004 7:47 PM

I know it just a deceptive angle

rodmcinnis 10-13-2004 11:01 PM

there was an accident some years back where a helicopter was filming off shore race boats and one of the race boats got airborn off a wave and hit the helicopter. People died in that accident.

I saw a video a short while back where a helicopter attempted to tow a stranded boat. They connect up the rope, the helicopter pulls up and forward. The line tightens and pulls the helicopter a little off level. The pilot attempts to correct, but he tries to go higher in the process, which only adds to the tension on the rope which further pulls him off center. The result is the helicopter rolls on its side and crashes.

Helicopters shouldn't fly that low and they sure as heck shouldn't attempt to pull anything!

Just a deceptive angle, no photoshop required.

socalwakepunk 10-14-2004 8:13 AM

Is that Kilgus and Letchworth in the Heli?

socalwakepunk 10-14-2004 8:15 AM

Ever notice on shots of guys doin' whirlys, that their eyes are rollin' back into their heads? Looks like Trevor is goin' into full on seizure.

evil_e 10-14-2004 8:46 AM

Remember that show they had on MTV a few years back where they would take stunts from music videos and do them cooler and better? Can't for the life of me remember the name, but in one of them, the guy got towed wakeboarding behind a helicopter, and then he latched himself in and the helicopter flew way up so he could skydive back down...

solo 10-14-2004 9:17 AM

Meddock

fatsac 10-14-2004 10:18 AM

I believe those shots are between Chelan and Wenatchee... Great area when the winds are calm - if you don't mind feeling like a 6 yr old boy again.
