Just wondering how many boarders there are in this area?

pc_sledge 01-03-2007 1:14 PM

Where in Iowa are you located? I've met quite a few close to the Quad Cities.

pc_sledge 01-08-2007 6:46 AM

I just traded in a 2003 MC x9 to Chicago Mastercraft that they have up for sale. In fact, I think they have it at their Riverview location which is less than a two hour drive from Davenport.

wakereviews 01-08-2007 7:04 AM

Hey Brett, you live in Davenport? I live out in LeClaire. What kind of boat did you trade in for? I've never ridden on the river (or even been on it for that matter). We go out to Oak Run (by Galesburg, IL). ever been out there?

pc_sledge 01-08-2007 12:55 PM

Ian, traded up to an MC x-45. I am super stoked for the spring. Talked to my dealer yesterday and he said it just came in, I can't wait for it to warm up! I have never been to Oak Run, but I love hitting up new spots. I used to live in Pleasant Valley but moved near Muscatine last year just so I could be closer to my favorite spot on the river. E-mail me if you want and we could share spots and pulls this spring.

wakereviews 01-08-2007 3:06 PM

Wow, and X45? that should handle the river just fine. Oak Run is a small private lake about 660 acres or so. Where did you get the X45? where are you going to have it serviced around here?

wanabe 01-08-2007 3:23 PM

Brett, I used to work for a construction company in the quad city area. Have you ever heard of allied construction services?

pc_sledge 01-09-2007 5:23 AM

Ian my new ride is coming from Mark at Chicago Mastercraft. He also operates through Riverview Marine which is where I go for service work. They are located along I-80 about two hours east of the Quad Cities. Marc, I am very familiar with Allied, my crews work right along side their crews on several commercial projects. My company does commercial and industrial concrete and excavating, so our work on a project is usually starting to wind down as they're just getting going. I deal quite frequently with Darin S. who does alot of their scheduling.

wanabe 01-09-2007 8:12 AM

Brett, it would be cool to get together this summer. I would like to meet differant people who like to ride. I stink sofar but am really looking forward to summer to get better. the people on this site really seem to be willing to help and I would love the opprotunity to meet new people

wakereviews 01-09-2007 8:39 AM

Marc, I'm with you. I think we should all get together. I'm not very good either. I just like to get big air and then bail half the time

wanabe 01-09-2007 9:01 AM

sounds great to me

wanabe 01-09-2007 9:13 AM

I was looking on a map for oak run, could not find anything like that. What is around it to help find it

mi_moomba 01-09-2007 10:35 AM

We are originally from SE Iowa, and contemplating the move back in a few years. We have never rode on a river though. How is riding on the Mississippi, especially around Burlington and Ft. Madison? Are there any other options in those areas for riding? Thanks!

wanabe 01-09-2007 11:14 AM

Will as far as I know there is not any other options, however in the keokuk area becouse of the bends in the river, the high bluffs. and some of the slues there should be decent water somewhere.

pc_sledge 01-09-2007 11:24 AM

Hey guys, I'm all in! I met another guy in the area who owns an older X-star. He posts on wakeworld now and again and is a great guy. We try and get out together every so often. We will have to put together a foursome and hit the water in the spring. After it warms up and I get my new ride broke in, I'll E-mail everybody and we can get together. Not trying to avoid the drive but if we are spread from Keokuk to Leclaire my area might be the closest to being in the middle. My new boat will hold alot of people so if you guys don't want to tow your rides everyone is more than welcome to hop on with me, If we want we could make a day of it. I live real close to the docks, and I could set up for a bonfire, beers and get the grill going. Let me know what you think.

Will, not real familiar with the Burlington/Ft. Madison area yet - but would like to be. Marc lives closer to that area maybe he could help you out.

wakereviews 01-09-2007 1:58 PM

Sounds great to me.

Marc, Oak Run is here:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=1470+Knox+Road+1725+N,+Da hinda,+IL&ie=UTF8&z=13&ll=40.950474,-90.118275&spn=0.091793,0.181274&om=1

You can check their site at http://www.oak-run.com

mjmurphy53711 01-09-2007 5:08 PM

brett i think i may have met you at the milita events in illinois.

if so you had a large family and were looking at the time to upgrade to the x45, if im right on this being you congrats on the new boat.

pc_sledge 01-10-2007 5:12 AM

What's up Mike! I've been up to a handful of Milita's events. You've got me pegged- my wife and I have five kids so yeah, really looking forward to more room on the boat. I feel bad though, I can't seem to match your name to a face. I've met a lot of really nice people at those events. Did I met you on the concrete dock while watching the contest? Do you have a wife/girlfriend that was with you?

mjmurphy53711 01-10-2007 9:06 AM

Well I was there repping my website ( www.midwestwakeboarder.com ) and yea I rode the contest, had my blonde girlfriend with me.

Just think the big dude in the mww shirt.

I cant beleive an iowa thread has lasted so long... If any of you ever get to the mid part of the state dave and I are both right off interstate and would be more than happy to take out some fellow wake beaters. We both have nice wake boat's and ride all the time!!

pc_sledge 01-10-2007 1:05 PM

Mike, yeah I remember for sure now. Maybe I'll run into you again and you can give me crap for this!

Brandon if I'm ever in the area I'll be sure to hit you up on your offer.

wakereviews 01-10-2007 2:10 PM

Brandon, I can't believe the Iowa wakeboarders thread is still alive as well. Guarantee we arae the only 4 people looking at it.

yeldarb 01-12-2007 11:26 PM

I'm from Iowa as well. From Clive (Des Moines area) and ride at Panorama. Currently going to ISU and skiing with the ISU Ski Team. I'm looking for some people to board with early-season at Panorama. If you're interested, drop me a line.

Luke - I think I've seen your boat on the lake. Who do you ride with?

brttkrz 01-13-2007 11:56 AM

Wow, I never knew there were so many people from Iowa. Me and a bunch of friends live in the NW part of the state but usually go up into Minnesota or South Dakota to board. Okoboji would be nice if it wasn't so busy all the time.

stalzskis 01-13-2007 5:22 PM

Brad, do you know Joe Weiser? I met Joe last year, we work for the same company. Watch him ski last May at the All-Stars/ Team trials at Dream Lakes. Nice kid & awsome skier, would love to get him down to Lake Ponderosa be hind my boat.

yeldarb 01-14-2007 11:00 AM

Nope, never heard of him, sorry (I just joined the team this year. Did he graduate?)

hyperlink 01-15-2007 6:37 AM

Keith, do you live at the Pond? or have a weekend place? we ride there about every day...

stalzskis 01-15-2007 5:37 PM

Brad, I think Joe graduated last spring. If you ask some team members Im sure they know him. Im a HAWK but i follow the ISU ski team,(web site)its a program on the rise. Good luck !

Brandon, just a weekend place,i have the burgandy & white sport nautuiqe, we watch you guys board a lot. (Trying to learn something)

badzuki 01-17-2007 10:51 AM

Brett - where do you live in NW Iowa. I am moving back up there and will be looking for some people to ride with.

cryptic22 01-17-2007 11:43 AM

Brad - I'd be game for early season at Panorama. Typically I just haul friends out with me. Only made it out there a few times last season.

It's somewhat difficult for me to get my friends to head out to Panorama on the evenings because it's "too far away..." isn't that right Badzuki!

I used to ride out there with Kevin and Steve Kissell before they moved.

spoonman 01-17-2007 1:11 PM

badzuki, where are you moving to? I am also in NW Iowa and ride near Sioux City. Okoboji is way to blowen out for me, but if you guys are down for a trip to S.C. let me know. We get going when the water at our spot is > 50. Usually it is about mid March but recent -25 nights may hold it up.

badzuki 01-18-2007 11:15 AM

Brad- I am moving up to Okoboji. I never get down to SC. There is some good riding there but you can't be on the big lakes.

Luke/Brad- Its not "too far away" they just don't let me off work early enough. It would be different if we had a boat over there ready to go.

yeldarb 01-18-2007 7:23 PM

The Kissells were fun guys. I remember them from the Lake Panorama Ski Team.

If you email me your phone number (yeldarb [at] barbdwyer [dot] com) I'll give you a call when it gets warmer.

badzuki - if you get off of work early sometime you're welcome to come as well

wakecrzy2000 01-18-2007 9:38 PM

Okoboji is always rough even during the week u can never get decent conditions. I live in Inwood, Iowa im Wallenburges riding bud we usually head out pretty early in the year go anywhere within a 1 hr drive(sometimes further). We are always lookin for a 3rd we are not serious wakeboarders just out there to have fun.

brttkrz 01-19-2007 9:13 AM

badzuki I live close to sioux center in a small town. It is about an hour away from okoboji. We usually go up into minnisota because okoboji is always busy.

hyperlink 01-19-2007 9:28 AM

Keith, haha we arent much to learn from but we try i guess.. I have seen your boat out there quite a bit and i think your the only one who doesnt get pi$$ed at us, you are more than welcome to come board with us anytime you want..

brttkrz 01-19-2007 2:00 PM

Mike What lake do you usually go to

wakecrzy2000 01-21-2007 4:24 PM

usually go to Wall Lake by Sioux Falls or Lake Vermillion. My parents have a cabin by Lake Cochrane thats a 2 hr drive. Been other places too but thats where I usually go

wally247 01-21-2007 8:39 PM

Hey Brett, I went to High School with you, my sister Melissa was in your class, I actually saw you in scheels a few weeks ago. we should go when it gets warm out again.

and Mike you spelled my last name wrong

99xstar 01-22-2007 8:41 AM

Right on guys. I lived in Urbandale for a while and learned how to get up on Panarama behind Nate Bartels' boat. I don't know if you Panarama guys know of him, but he was pretty much the beginning of wakeboarding on Panarama. You might still see him out on his old Prostar.

01-22-2007 8:53 AM

I have helped host a tournament for the past two summers on Twin Lakes, which is 30 miles west of Fort Dodge. Last year we had an amazing turnout with over 60 competitors ranging from a beginner class, a group of female riders, and clear up to an outlaw division featuring 8 or 9 really talented riders. We will be doing the same event this coming summer and with any luck, and some more help from our sponsors, we plan on making the event even bigger. People came from all over, Okoboji and that area clear down to Panorama and the Des Moines area. There were some 200 people hanging out on the beach all day and watching the riders do their thing. Oak Hill Marina in Okoboji hooked us up last year with an X-Star as well as an X-1 and we look for them to do the same this year. Red Bull threw a couple cases our way and those were free to the public and prizes came way of Twin Lakes Marina, providing us with boards, bindings, vests and that kind of stuff that the winners received. If anyone is interested in the event let me know and once we figure out our information I will be sure and forward it out to you. Thanks and I look to see you this summer.

wakereviews 01-22-2007 8:55 AM

Yeah, I'm interested in learning more about it and possibly attending.

brttkrz 01-22-2007 9:04 AM

Dustin do you and mike go together. How is wall lake and lake vermillion. I havn't actully ever heard of them. I usually go to okabena because it was that closest but it is really shallow. yeah mabey we can ride together sometime that would be sweet.

wally247 01-22-2007 9:48 AM

yeah we do, wall lake is really small but it's all right. Lake Vermillion is awesome but its a farther drive, we get out there early and had it all to ourselves for a while and the whole thing was glass last year. Definately going to go there more often this year.

as for okabena, thats ok too but all those jet skiers piss me off.

brttkrz 01-22-2007 12:23 PM

Badzuki If your ever looking for people to ride with let me know

yeldarb 01-22-2007 1:11 PM

Jeffrey - I've heard of him. I saw him (as a kid) in some of the old Ski Team videos. He was quite a little show off, haha. But I've also heard he was a SICK wakeboarder!

westerdude 01-22-2007 6:46 PM

I would have to agree with mr. sandvig if you are from iowa or anywhere close you have to check out the twin lakes wakefest its insane.... tons of riders tons of people and some sick ass boats... you cant go wrong with 2 x stars pullin all day...

westerdude 01-22-2007 6:49 PM

Oh and if anyone wants to buy an 06 hyperlite premier 141 make me an offer only used like half the season.... its a sick ass ride....

pc_sledge 01-23-2007 4:30 AM

Jordan, never heard of twin lakes wakefest. Do you have a link or any more information?

westerdude 01-23-2007 4:10 PM

Brett its just a tourney that a few of my buddies put on... turns out a lot of riders i think we had like 40-50 riders from begner-outlaw and like 20 girls that showed up... its tons of fun and usually get some great prizes given out from boards to shades and other sweet swag.... we also set up some rails and a kicker to hit.... theres been a great crowd that shows up i think f you click on Nicholas name above theres a few pics

wakereviews 01-23-2007 5:05 PM

Looks like a pretty good time to me! Brett should bring his new X-45 up to really Wow the crowd!

westerdude 01-23-2007 5:26 PM

That would be sick!! threw a bunch of weight in that bad boy and see what it can throw up.... last year we had 2 x stars and an x1 pullin the comp.... the x star that we pulled the outlaw with was insane we had so much weight in it took forever to get out of the hole but once you got goin it was insane all the riders said it was the biggest they have ever hit....

brttkrz 01-23-2007 7:17 PM

Where exactly are the twin lakes located. That sounds like something me and a few buddies would be interested in.

westerdude 01-23-2007 7:21 PM

Its about 20 miles west of fort dodge around manson if you know where that is.... little over 2 hours north west of des moines.... its deff a good time with a lot of good riding...

(Message edited by westerdude on January 23, 2007)

See exactly where Twin Lakes is click http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=twin+lakes+marina&sll =42.454241,-94.652538&sspn=0.054461,0.11673&ie=UTF8&am p;z=13&ll=42.482352,-94.652538&spn=0.054437,0.11673&om=1&iw loc=A

The tournament should be even bigger than it was last year. I am assuming that Oak Hill in Okoboji will throw us another XStar and last year they talked about the new X2, but didnít have one in stock so gave us an X1. Hopefully this year they will have the new X2. Last year we had the X1 pull the beginner and girls class, while the XStar from Oak Hill pulled the intermediate. There is an 04 XStar on our lake with the 8.1 engine in it so for the outlaw we loaded that boat down with the same weight and distribution the Pro Tour uses. The wake was insanely large and the double ups were unbelievable. You should have seen the outlaw riders eyes the first time they hit the wake!! Looking at getting the pro tour prop for this year to help the boat plane faster, although it really wasnít that big of a deal last year. Hopefully we get good weather again! No details are really worked out yet but once we know, you guys will too.

Stefan Harvey is the one who does the real work for the tournament, hitting up the sponsors and getting everything settled. I help him out but he does 90% of the work. We have talked about when to hold the tourney again this year but never really came to a decision.

Last year Stefan rode after all the competitors were done and that alone made the day for nearly all of the 200 or so spectators. He is a solid rider and loves the sport. It really shows in the tournament he puts on.

Again there definitely will be more details to come as summer approaches. If you have any questions though, hit me up with a message and I'll be sure and get back to you ASAP. Thanks and I hope to see you all at the Twin Lakes Wakefest this summer!!

- Fathead
