So my friend in Texas just gave me 400-500 lbs of lead. He got it from an indoor shooting range and are slugs from bullets. My questions is, how should I store it. I had a few ideas. I was thinking about either melting into bricks or maybe just putting into some tupperware containers and duct taping the crap out of them. I think the brick idea would be most efficient. Any suggestions or tips on melting, or possible storage containers that wouldn't leak or break.

there was threads before with people selling bags of i think 40lbs, if u could make some of those bags and put lead in them that would be fine. <BR>ill search for the thread

if you have the room, go buy some of those small gallon gas containers. They have handles for easy transportation. I did it in my old boat and it worked great.

I like the POP bags but they are alittle spensive. what type of lead do they use in those. I need about 2-300 lbs. for my bow.

POP bags are not made with lead. It looks like steel punch scrap from a sheetmetal shop. <BR> <BR>If you make similar bags with lead you could make them a lot smaller for the 40 lb. Thats what I would do...

I made my own with bags of shotgun pellets. I paid 12 bucks for a 25 pound bag, and made each bag 50 pounds. They seem a little heavy, but they work great! I found a guy who was selling all of his shot because no one reloads shotgun shells anymore. I used the unopened shot bags, and made some heavy vinyl bags myself. They look like the POP bags, only red.

DON'T TRY TO MELT IT! THE STUFF HAS MORE SCRAP THAN LEAD. Just put it into some sort of bag, I saw a post about putting it into 3"-4" PVC pipe and capping ends

Shotgun pellets are available without age restrictions. They are hard to find, but worth it if the price is reasonable. The argument for toxicity is mostly opinion, fact will demonstrate that there is no risk unless you melt it, handle the lead directly for extended periods, or eat it.

Total of 550lbs. Our home lake is only 15 miles away and having a tandum trailer it carries it with no problem. Some goes behind the back seat, some in the side cubbies and the rest in the bow, and you don't even see it. We also fill a few sacs once on the lake and we are on our way. there are 25 pound bags of shot at wal-mart in the huntin/fishing department. they're about $24 a bag...so about a $1 a pound...a little more expensive than the pop bags and you don't get the bag...but they're clean and soft and would be easy to store without rolling around or running the risk of breaking something like the pvc...and you don't have to melt anything and risk dying. i think i'm going to pick me up about 300 lbs. to even out the front of my boat a little more. easier than filling up 300 lbs of water in my fat sac. think i'll just sell the sac and leave the lead in the boat.

My local sporting goods store sells dumbbells for .50 cent a pound. I picked up 2 75lb dumbbells and can easily move them around the boat as necessary. They are also hex shaped, so they dont move around easily on their own.

Leo, The tupperware idea is good and cheap. Make them about 30lbs each and they'll be easy to move, stack and stash. Good tupperware is pretty strong and you should be able to get it at Walmart. Duct tape it up and you'll be good. If you want to make it more dense then fill up the tupperware with the lead and add sand to fill in the voids. <BR> <BR>BTW the pop bags are killer. That's all I run in my boat now (except for the proflight 65lb bricks in the far back). I've got 14 that I can move anywhere I need.
