What are the advantages of having double fins? Ive seen the boards that have four fins that look smaller then the normal two center fins. Im just curious what difference that makes?

I have a Liquid Force Trip 143. Six fins can be mounted on the board. There are four smaller fins at the extreme four corners and larger fins in the traditional center on each end of the board.

When you make a turn with the board edge the center fin often (all the time for myself) come out of the water adding no control benefit. So in hard turns the center fin isn’t helpful. However, a fin on the out board edge deep in the water does help considerably.

My group of boarders haven’t been using the center fin for quite awhile. We’ve found that the center fin doesn’t help advanced riders. With the larger center fins removed it’s easier to do surface spins. New riders probably need the center fins.

Hope that helps
The smaller fins help with tracking and allow you to customize the feel of your board, like Edward said. I've found that without the center fin, I can get away with bigger mistakes on landings because the board doesnt try to pull me around as much. But, on the other hand, with the center fin in I don't slip out as much on landing, which helps if I don't really feel like hanging on to the rope for dear life if I mess something up.
