Transcend 138
I just picked up a left over CWB Transcend 138 at my local board shop. The rep said that the 138 length would be fine. I currently ride a 138 SOL and have done fine on it. I'm 6' and weigh 185lbs.
When I read through the forums here, it seems like most would recommend this board in a 142 length for my size/weight. This would have been the route I would have taken as well, except that the board price was too good to pass up and they didn't have the 142. Am I really going to be holding myself back by being on a 138? Does 4cm really make that big a difference? Thanks! |
I weigh the same and have a Transcend 142. I rode a 138 all the time last year - you'll be fine. Enjoy it - I love this board, so does everyone who rides it.

Jeff,
What made you choose the 142 over the 138? |
I'm at 165 on a 138 Transcend and it boots me just fine. I do think you are on the edge though. NO donuts!
Oh, and you are gonna love this board. Did you get the Answer bindings with the deck? |
I have both the 138 and 142, I don't notice that much of a difference between them honestly - I'm 5'11 165lbs

I'm 5-9 170 and I prefer the 142. On big landing the 138 might sink a little more on you. The rep was right, you'll be fine, but you might like the 142 a little more.
Sick board. Everytime I try to change, I always come back to the Transcend. |
I went from a 141 Absolute to the 138 Transcend and couldn't be happier. I am 6' - 190lbs and don't have any problems. I like the feel of the smaller boards in the air. Seems like less swing weight for the fat guy!

6-3 225 here so a little more mass to throw around than others. I have a 138 in my piles of boards. I agree with J-Rod on certain tricks you will sink or drop in deeper on the 138, also maybe because I'm old, I notice the 138 makes we more tired, rides deeper than my 142. I do like that when I ride the 138 I feel like there is no mass and you can throw it around with ease.
Great board! G |
I'm 6' and about 178, haha. I ride a transcend 138, and the only complaint I have is landings in the flats can be kind of rough. I've also recently ridden a lyman 143 and liked the landings, as well as a ronix one 142 and really really liked the landings. I realize those are completely different boards from the transcend, but I do think the longer length helps quite a bit softening up landings. With all of that said, you will be fine on the 138. If you get a chance, try out some longer boards and maybe next time you're looking to buy something you'll end up with a slightly larger one. Good luck and enjoy the new board!
