Has anyone seen this? Put the battery in, the shutter fires (while off) and when the power is on, it fires repeatedly then stops and displays Error 99 on the screen.

I'm about to call Canon but I thought I'd ask around first.

-S

Try googling it? I'm pretty sure Error 99 is a generic code that means there is an error with the lens (contacts) or something similar.

already cleaned the contacts, in fact there is no lens on it. Something is up with the battery compartment.. or even humidity. It all started when I was up in the State capitol dome. On the 4th level the humidity was crazy! lenses fogged up immediately.

Then I started getting errors... well I actually did swap lenses right before the error started up... weird.

-S

solved the problem! kinda.. bought another 20D body! LOL Gonna send this one in for repair at Canon. I was tempted to just go with the EOS-1 Mk.III but my waterproof is for my 20D... so the EOS-1 will have to wait.. :-(

yeah, I was thinking it was the shutter assy. I'm up to around 150-200k shots on that.. maybe up to 225k shots.

No worries, I really dig my housing, and wanted a backup 20D anyhow, should cost about $180 to fix and get it back and all will be well.

I hope to get the MKIII on day soon.

-S

"I'm up to around 150-200k shots on that.. maybe up to 225k shots. "

That's impressive, you sure got your money's worth on that body!

Could be lens contacts as well with that mileage.

swami 07-05-2007 7:48 AM

yeah, cleaned the contacts, no go... even did it without a lens on. smart money says shutter is toast... no worries, I'm confident they will repair it and send it back and I'll have two functional bodies (just what I need)

-S

I got error 99 after i dropped my xti in the water.. not good.

eubanks01 09-25-2007 7:02 AM

I got my Error 99 on my DR not too long after I bought it in late 2003. I took it to Best Buy and they swapped it on the spot. I knew back then this error was extremely common and had to be sent off for repair/replacement.
