I am going to upgrade the stereo this offseason and was wanting some advice. Currently I have the Clarion XMD1 CD player, (6) 6-1/2 kicker 600M (65 Watts RMS - 4 ohm) marine speakers, kicker KX300.4 amp and the 10" kicker (125 Watts RMS) 10M marine sub (free air mount currently). The amp is powering the sub (with 150 Watts - I believe) and the four speakers in the main part (with 38 Watts - I believe). The front two speakers are being powered off of the head unit (no idea what power - head unit is a 45 x 4 though).
Sorry, I am NOT going to add tower speakers though. I figure I already piss off the people enough with the wake and skiing close to shore (docks) no need to draw extra attention to the boat. Plus I have enough to worry about while I'm skiing than what's on the stereo.
Should I replace the kicker speakers or simply add an amplifier to better power them? I was looking at the Polk Momo's, but they are $169.99 a pair or $510 for all six. Is it worth $510 to replace the kickers? What about the sub? Should I upgrade to a new sub or simply enclose the existing? I know I am going to have to add an amp - any recommendations? I am also looking at adding the DC625 6 disc changer $169.99.
Can anyone with more stereo knowledge than myself help out? When adding another amp do I have to run the power back to the battery? What about the signal from the head unit? Will I need any crossovers? What gauge wire should I use? I am not sure what gauge is currently being used. It appears to be the same gauge for the sub and 6 speakers.
