Carpet ------> Foam flooring
This is something I was thinking about doing in the off-season. Has anyone successfully moved to foam flooring from carpet? My carpet is thrashed from Dirty Delta water and it is nearing 10 years old.
Who are the top vendors for foam flooring? What are the downsides? Is one color better/worse than the others? What is the typical installation process? I am concerned that I have some carpet in random areas like the engine cover and down the sides of the walkways that would probably look like arse if I don't do it right and with the right color. I appreciate your thoughts.... |
Not sure what you mean by "Foam Flooring"...
Are you talking about a loose lay vinyl product such as Fiberfloor? There are several Loose lay vinyls available that have a foam or fiberglass based backings. |
Seadeck comes in the new centurions. I am thinking about doing this next spring. It looks sweet!
|
^^^^^ The seadeck type of material.
|
Nautique also did it on the Billabong boat: http://vimeo.com/15064581
The standard boats have faux teak on the swim platform and some other areas: http://www.nautique.com/models/photos-200 |
Yamaha jetboats and jetskiis use www.hydroturf.com. Not as heavy duty as seadek but holds up, feels good, and looks nice. Probably cheaper too but I really don't know. They will send you samples. Very similar to the Nautique fake teak if not the same.
My snap-out carpet backing is going but I think I'll get a few years more out of it. |
The Nautique fake teak is made by Seadek. I would ask some of the Epic guys on here how it holds up as Seadek was the flooring of choice for Epic as well.
|
My biggest concern is that my boat doesn't have the finished floor that most of the newer boats have, so I suspect it would be very difficult to get the material to attach to the "raw" fiberglass (which is what I am assuming is under my carpet but not totally sure).
|
Then sand it, and spray some gelcoat on it.
|
How rough is it? I know from experience that the Seadek adhesive is super sticky and wouldn't be suprised if it would stick to virtually anything. I'd call Jason Gardner at Seadek and ask him. I would imagine you could smooth it out enough for a good base without having to do much more. Mine is the same and i'm considering this also.
|
Good idea guys. I could throw down a couple coats of resin and give it a much better surface to bond. How do I get a hold of Jason?

Thank you.

I thought about doin seadek in my boat, but I would want it to be snap out. Don't know if that can be done.
|
That sure seems to make sense over traditional carpet. If I could only hose it off and out the back with a self bailing deck. That would be awesome.
|
I love having it on the floor in my Epic. I also have 2 holes in the floor, in the back corners. If I spray it out with a hose, it runs down into the bilge and out through the bilge pump.
|
Joe, do you mind snapping a picture of it? I would love to see what it looks like.
|
PHAT,
Go to the EPIC MOD THREAD on here, there are lots of us over there and plenty of pictures. I think I have one up that has the flooring. I own a 2011 Epic with that flooring on it. LOVE IT !! |
I want to avoid the bilge and run it right out the boat.
