Changing GT-40 SANTE impeller while boat is in the water?

Quick question please!
In the event that I have a problem with my new impeller install.....do I have to pull the boat back off the water to replace/or fix my impeller? I have a 2002 SANTE and in the back when I lift up my engine compartment I have the 2 blue levers to shut off the rear ballast tanks but I also have a red lever that is supposed to shut off the raw water inlet. Anyone have more info on this?
Im guessing if I don't shut off the raw water inlet the water will be come directly up from the inlet hose?
Thanks for any help!
Harold

I changed mine in the water with no problem. I did close the valve. Not sure if it helps, but my thought process was the same as yours... and it worked.

I'm going to guess that it won't, but it's pretty close so closing it won't hurt as long as you remember to open it when you're done. Mark the direction the water flows, the pump works in both directions depending on how it is put together, it's very easy to put it back together the wrong way and have it trying to pump water out of the motor.

Right on guys....thanks for the help! I ordered the wrong impeller so once I get another one in this weekend will be the first time taking the boat out since I tore my ACL in my right knee 2 years ago!
Looking forward to a relaxing weekend on Lake Tulloch! :D
