Currently have an 08 VLX. I want to run some transom LED's. What do I use for my power source? Do you run them on a separate cicuit to the battery and put in additional switches, or do you tie into the power somewhere else? Is there a tutorial or step by step instructions floating around in cyber space on how to do a simple install? I was thinking of putting in 1 or 2 light clusters on either side of the transom. If you have installed LEDs yourself which did you purchase and from where? is there a kit I could buy. I dont want to pay someone to do it, I really want to do the project myself. thanks

My Vride had a couple of unused AUX switches in the dash already. I just had to run some wire from them to the breaker box under the throttle, then to the LEDs in the transom &amp; to a ground. <BR> <BR>It might be a whole new game with the new MUX switches though.

it is a whole new game with the new switches. I am pretty sure that to wire into the dash you have to take it to dealer to get the schematics to do so. I think the easiest way would be to splice into existing led circuit already on the boat.

I did the same as Bill. Although not on a Malibu. The trickiest part was getting to the spare switch terminals. From there, I ran wire to the engine compartment to a fuse bus that allows future expansion of other LED upgrades. I got the wire, crimp connects and marine fuse bus from boaters world for minimal price. I all ready had the soldering kit for extra strong crimp reinforcement. Drilling the holes in the transom ended up being much less of a problem than i thought. One lesson learned. Before sealing fixture with 3m 4200 sealant, mask every area to protect from oversqueeze and smearing. When they say "fast cure" they mean it. Hope the experience of a true amateur helps.
