Winch Ideas

I've got a 7.8 hp Honda generator in my garage that I'm soon to get working. Once it's running does anyone have any ideas on how I can take the engine and create a winch?

Do some research, there are a bunch of winching forums out there. Basically you will need a clutch, or a Torq-A-verter :) a spool, drivetrain components (#40 chain, and sprockets) pillow blocks (Journal bearings) ...maybe a breaking system, some amsteel blue line, ect ect

Thanks a lot. Any idea of the totAL cost of that approximately?

I bet you will have $500-$750 in parts easily.

yup, depends on what you get....but you will approach 500 pretty quickly.... lots of little things you dont think of up front really add up quickly...

None of the parts are cheap. Plus unless you have the facilities to do some cutting, welding and fab work your going to have to pay someone for that too. There is a reason they aren't cheap to buy. Lots of money in parts and it takes some time to put them together. Plus some skill to fab it all up and have it work properly.

Having a used engine is probably the cheap part!!

you can buy spools, but making your own is way cooler. Will likely need to pay someone to CNC the Outter wheels. You are gonna need to do some math and some scaled srawing (CAD if you have access to it) so that you can be sure your fit with all the gear works out. I never followed through with my project. I have like 800 feet of line, pillow blocks, chain, sprockets, a Torque-A-verter, and hubs sitting in my closet :(
