I want some of the experts opinions on filters and polarizers for taking pictures at the lake.

I'm not a expert but I run a UV filter on all of my glass. I have a circular polarizer filter for one of my lens and never use it.

I have heard a lot of people say you need a polarized lens if you are shooting on the water but I don't own one. Like Walt, I run a UV filter on all of my lenses just to protect them. I don't buy a lens without buying a UV filter. I haven't looked at any boarding shots and thought I needed a polarized filter.

In the right setting a good polarizer can add a fantastic color variation to the frame. If you have never used one go buy a cheap one from Best Buy for $10 and play round with it, if you like it then buy a good one. Watch out stacking a bunch of filters though, the more glass there is to go through generally means the lower the picture quality.

-Matt
